This looks like "Smith's Parish," A China Rose, and one of the "Bermuda Mystery Roses." It does many color combinations: Bob Edberg opines that this is probably the lost "Five-Colored Rose," noting logically that, if he were Robert Fortune, that's what HE would have called it. :-) Jeri

Hi. I don't know the id of your rose but I'll guess the floribunda Iceberg. I've found that Vintage garden's website is very helpful if you want to learn about different classes of roses and see photos of the roses, and drawings of their growth habits. Click on the link, then you'll see a list of all the different rose classes, click on a class, then you'll get more information, click on a rose and you can see how that rose looks. I also do not think it is Dr. Huey. How large are the blooms? Hard to tell from the pics. Can you post a picture of just one bloom next to, say, a quarter? If they are sort of small to medium, the growth pattern and the color would make me guess that it might be a china rose - there are many red china roses. Here is a picture of one of mine, with a closer pic of some blooms. Of course, it also might not. To get a better ID, you might want to try the following: What I would do if it was mine is: 1) Cut off any obviously dead parts. 2) Weed all of the grass or anything else at least 25 inches away from the base of the rose. 3) Put 2 inches of mulch down on the area you weeded. Do not let the mulch touch the rose canes. 4) Water it well, and keep it watered (it will bloom more that way). WAIT for 12 months to see what it does. Does it re-bloom a lot, or not at all? Is it fragrant, or not? Take close up pictures of any hips which might be on it. Take close up pictures of both sides of the leaves, and also the prickles (thorns). Post those pics on here and folks will be better able to give you ideas about an ID. Jackie

Hi Chisos: Here's the info. on Dame de Coeur rose. Since your rose has light fragrance & bushy .. it doesn't fit with Dame's strong scent, huge 6 inch. bloom, and slender hybrid tea. Plus Dame is VERY THORNY. Your bush looks more like a double-red-knock-out .. popular landscape bush. The below is description of Dame de Coeur: Bred by Louis Lens (Belgium, 1958). Class: Hybrid Tea. Bloom: Cherry-red. Strong fragrance. up to 35 petals. Average diameter 6". Very large, full (26-40 petals) bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. Habit: Armed with thorns / prickles. Glossy, dark green foliage. Height of 35" to 47" (90 to 120 cm). DonaldQuRoses Rose holds up to heat very well. Temps in the 90s and 100s and roses stay put! Vicious thorns!!!
