Comments (6)'Blue Skies,' 'Silver Shadows' and 'Do-Si-Do' are all roses in shades of lavender bred by the lake Griffith Buck from Iowa State University, who focused on health and cold-hardiness. I'll put a link to a list of his hybrids -- you can click on the names to see photos and descriptions. Since you're in a different climate now I'd also try another 'Reine des Violettes.' Mine is getting ready for its first flush of the year. Love it! A rugusa rose might work for you too, like 'Hansa' which is a ruffly, fragrant hot fuschia beauty. It should be hardy in your zone. Comments (24)I had Blue Chip and am replacing it. It died from the Easter 07 freeze. Plant is compact, repeat flowers fairly quickly, flowers prone to bull-nosing and burning in our hot summer heat. Otherwise, it is a nice florist's rose for the garden. Seven Seas almost perished from the freeze. It has many ruffled petals but is not very vigorous. Shocking Blue almost perished from the freeze, but it is trying to come back. It was doing fairly well. I actually did get some small sprays. Vol de Nuit I had at my other house in Washington. Flowers were okay; I thought it was an average rose for that climate. Can't speak to a hot, humid climate for that rose. Blue Bayou I had to plants. The grafted one perished in the big freeze; the own-root plant barely hung on. I am getting another one of these also. Flowers are very silvery and have more of a pale blue cast to them when compared to some of the other lavenders which have more red to their color. I have not seen any large sprays on this variety either. That is all the comments I have on your list....See MoreMauve and purple shrub roses (again)
Comments (105)Seaside - I hope it works! :) :) Kristine - I am so in love with your Lavender Crush. I hope I can find one next year! Beautiful Twilight zone color. :) :) I hate it when the camera won't take the right color from the rose...very frustrating. I'm so glad that you saved Sweet Madame Blue...she's a beauty...and the color is wonderful....See MoreBest mauve/purple rose?
Comments (18)I just bought Munstead Wood this spring, and it is nearing the end of its first flush. Beautiful flowers, but much more magenta than every photo I have seen online. It also flops terribly in the rain :(. I had thought of putting MW in the spot for the mauve/purple rose, but decided to keep it in a pot on my patio and save that spot for a HT. Your rose bed sounds lovely!...See Moreseil zone 6b MI
