Hi There

Looking to get a new camera - modest in price but will take really clear shots with great color.

Any suggestions?

There is such a wealth from which to choose now!!!

My first was an Olympus Comedia 3 megapixel. I still use it for 3 reasons:
1. It has a red/blue adjustment which helps greatly with lavender iris.
2. Is excellent in low light.
3. Shoots tiff files which turn out as well as a 6 megapixel camera.

Then I had to get a Canon I saw recommended here - the A95 (5 Mp).
Does truer apricot/peach tones than my Oly. (IMO) But .............. I found it harder
to hold steady when pressing the shutter release.

So I bought a used Canon G3 (4 Mp). Like its ergonomics much better. Prefer it to the A95.

To be honest I'd like to have a Sony and Nikon as well! And of course a digital SLR. I am really impressed with how accurate Canon Rebel series does with difficult flower colors.

Bottom line: set your price limit, stick with a major name, and make sure it feels comfortable in your hand as you let it focus & press the shutter. A professional who spoke at our club strongly feels anything beyond 10 Mp is overkill.

Capeheart, you have described just about every digital camera on the market! In all seriousness, virtually every manufacturer produces competent equipment in today's market. I own cameras by Canon, Sony and Olympus. They include the Olympus at 26X zoom, Sony at 5X and another at 12X along with a couple of Canon SLR's.

In the earlier days of digital cameras, there was a problem with accurately capturing reds and purple shades...this is no longer a problem on any of the cameras that I have tested.

When you refer to "really clear shots", I assume that you are referring to both sharpness and exposure. Without exception, both of these attributes can be cured with the proper camera settings (for that picture). Few of us ever sit down with the operator's manual and understand the basic settings necessary to get high quality photos. Also, most photos can be greatly improved by post-exposure adjustments with a software program. Some can be downloaded free, while some have a cost attached. I seem to get my best results using Photoshop (I use CS2).

ell, I also loved Brosnan, but I did think he played Bond, a role he really, really wanted, as if he were still Remington Steele or that art thief in a film the title of which escapes me. Craig plays it much more as if he were Bond for real and he never goes for humor the way Brosnan did (though there is some humor). As for the sex angle, it's there but it's totally built in to the story line, nothing gratuitous on any level. Judy Dench as M is good, as usual, and the costume designers did a great job of "minimizing" her slight heftiness, made her look very cool and still very much in the middle of the action.

Oh my. Warms my heart to see such participation, thank you all. I also emailed my friends and family with this link. I think it's so sweet that so many waved no matter where they were. Jimmy and I did arrive about ten minutes early. Jan called us on our cell right then and I'm praying that somehow only Jan saw what Jimmy did not the ENTIRE WORLD! Let's just say, the sun wasn't the only orb to shine brightly. The "moon" shone for a long second there. Of course I was horrified at Jimmy's lack of modesty but Jan was laughing so hard, I too busted out laughing. More laughter ensued as we were on the phone with Jan while we were holding a kiss for ten seconds. She was coaching us telling us when the ten second delay would change. As if Jimmy needed any encouragement,lol. I was in fear of what he could do next. Maybe the fact that The Kite Loft needs to clean the saltwater off their camera lense is a good thing? One jogger who ran by us thought we were waving at her so she waved back, smiled and gave us an enthusiastic "thank-you". It was so fun "seeing" you all wave back at us in our minds. Looking through the enormously helpful google images, I think this was just a Cedrus that had either a natural tendency to be dense, or had been pruned that way. It was also a medium green, not a blue green or a dark green. This leads me to think it was Cedrus deodara. The tree was sort of a bulbous pyramidal shape which futher make me think it was pruned. (it was 15' high next to a house) If you pruned a Cedrus deodara would they respond well and get denser and denser but still retain a natural appearance? If so I might tree that, because it was interesting and attractive looking. It was vaguely like that Japanese art of "giant bonsai" whose name escapes me now. I'm already planning to try that with some Podocarpus "chinensis" which is a particularly hardy strain of Podocarpus macrophyllus kicking around the US nursery trade. No damage at all at 0F.

Well, Paul--cornered hubby to help me photograph mine with a measurement of approximately 47" from longest tip to longest tip: Hope you can see the closeup number! I don't know if I did this correctly but hubby held up the leaf on the left to start the measurement from and I did the same on the other end! Of course he had to drop his leaf to take the pic.--whatever--it's big! Sorry about the holes--hail damage that I'm thankful was not worse than what I have! I have friends fairly nearby (5 miles and less) that had their hosta completely smashed to the ground, with not a leaf or petiole left attached! A hosta summer lost for them--so sad, but so thankful it was not a whole lot worse for them and us all in our area, as it was in other states!!! The hosta WILL return, but loss lives, of course...!

Holy cow!!!! Those are so clear - it looks better than it would if I was there and actually saw the rose!!! Your VH is EXCEPTIONALLY beautiful. The edges of the flowers are so delineated.

I'm impressed. We're thinking of getting a new camera, so I'll show this to my husband!
