Perhaps someone mentioned this above and I missed it--I do that sometimes. Why not try here and find out. It would take very little work to take a couple Brug cuttings as one would normally do, pack them up and put them in a box for 3 weeks. Presumably cuttings at differerent stages of maturity would be a good idea. And if one is motivated a couple ways of packing them might be ideal. Is there any possibility they would root over that period of time? If so, why not use something that needs to be propagated anyway? I suppose one concern might be that customs will open the box and inspect the cuttings. So methods where the cuttings might best survive after being removed and handled would be ideal. Perhaps sending lots of cuttings packed separately in something transparent would avoid this. I've read that Passiflora sent in plastic bags sometimes root over a period of two to three weeks. If a method like that were attempted, presumably woody bits without leaves would be ideal. Would such pieces rot or even need to photosynthesize over that period? I root B. vulcanicola cuttings (and many other plants) in 100% humidity, often with poor lighting. For me Brugs are more prone to rot than almost anything, but still many survive. I almost never have a problem with other plants. By the way, if someone claims your shipping methods are inadequate over a 2-3 day trip, letting something sit around in a box for a week can tell you whether the problem is the fault of USPS and/or due to the recipient's neglect. Unless the problem is due to evaporation, you'll almost always find it's the latter. I take it people in some parts of the country have a couple spare cuttings at the moment?

Hello Moonie, I can't say I've ever seen them sold that way. I've been to many nurseries and stores in HI that sell them, but no glass jars- typically they are bagged unless coming directly from a nursery. Although I cannot remember specifically, people have mentioned buying plumeria at either a large farmers market or swap meet type thing somewhere in LA. I know that isn't super helpful, but I seem to remember a significant farmers market in Hollywood, a well known place, that may be a good start. Perhaps someone else will chime in. I'd say shipping is shipping, and some of the places we order from probably charge a bit more than a family member would, but they typically package them quite safely. If you search on here you will quickly find who people use from ebay. But, to answer your real question- no I don't know where specifically you can get a plumeria in glass jars in N. Hollywood, or anywhere. If you had someone you know send it the liklihood is it would be cheaper, just be sure they take care in packaging. ...not to mention your hot-water-bottle and a bedtime-bobble-hat!! Hi Hazel and others, it certainly has been a summer to remember here hasn't it, but for all the wrong reasons? What with all those floods, its been constantly cold, cloudy, dull wet and windy etc etc. The month of April was lovely, really warm and the first week of August too, apart from that its been dreadful. Today its only around 13 degrees here, brrrrrr. My plumie (Celadine) is hopeless, having produced only a few mid sized leaves and of course no sign whatsoever of flowers, a real disappointment. sniff-sniff. My 4 seedlings from Lauri's seeds are still leafy and are looking good, almost overtaking Celadine in the growth stakes, I hope they overwinter ok. However, I have found some solace in looking at all the lovely pics posted on here by our more fortunate members, but I have turned a very fetching shade of green, with envy...would far rather have turned a nice brown with the sun though. ok...now I have read everything and get the picture and I hear where you are both coming from...your husband wants you to love his son like he does..I know when my husband cuddles with my 8 year old I sit back and watch and smile..it warms my heart...what your husband has to realize is this doesn't happen overnight though..it is a long journey and it takes more time when you don't see him alot (he isn't living there yet right?)I also agree that your marriage needs to be a priority...an issue of mine actually...because young eyes are watching and learning about what a relationship is to be like...your husband needs to listen and validate your feelings..you will carry this resentment as long as he is dismissing your needs. As long as you are carrying resentment you shouldn't be forced to spend one on one time with the child...do it as a group..you can interact when YOU feel comfortable and the child won't feel like you are being forced on him either..after all our kids didn't ask for us to get divorced and they didn't pick our new partners for us..the child could be having a hard time with this too..intersting..neither of you have given the opinion of the child and that is something that should be a priority..the boy should have an open relationship with his dad discussing likes/dislikes fears etc...and it is YOUR husband's resp. to wean you into this relationship and to ensure that it stays positive..like a buffer that hears you both out. My husband and I have been together 5 years..we saw his girls every other weekend...we had issues with me feeling like I was forgotten..still do...but a WEEK before we got married this past August we were told we would have custody given to us by Social services and that would happen directly after our honeymoon which we all went on together...I pushed with my husband to get his girls to a safe home and was thrilled to see the happiness in my husband over the fact that they would be with us and some of the manipulative game playing of the ex would end...love is wanting to see your partner happy but marriage also consists of love, honor and respect and right now your hubby needs to respect your feelings and insecurities. We went to disneyland on our honeymoon.I rode 2 rides with my husband and he spent all hsi time with his eldest daughter and his younger daughter wanted and needed a mother so she was glued to me..did I have resentment, yeah some..this was my new husband, my honeymoon, but i knew the greater picture was of being a FAMILY and with a 62% or higher divorce rate we all have quirky families now (extended maybe a better word). Some days are worse than others but I find that when my husband validates my feelings and we are getting along...I resent his children less...and if you look at your daughter which I understand is both of yours...look at her and ask yourself how you would feel if your hubby didn't show her love and compassion..the love he feels for his daughter, he feels for his son...I remind myself of that often when I look at my 3 sons and love them to pieces..I understand that my husband loves his girls just the same...hope I helped.
