I think 21 days in transit is really pushing it. I would try the seeds again. Continue to soak and peel the cork. You want to barely cover the seeds with soil. I assume it's warm there so you can keep the pot with the seeds outside. Keep the soil lightly moistened, not wet, or the seeds may rot.

Would a padded envelope mailed from the US also take 21 days to reach Egypt?

My 1st thought was if it would make it through customs? Has the seller tried Egypt before?

IF I would send anything that long..I would assume they have to be really all woody. Put them in those Meyer bags lol But what if they start sweating?

I am with Karyn, try the seeds. All the risks is not worth spending money on something that might not work.
It took me a second try with the seeds until I got them to germinate.

yeah karyn it takes 21 - 25 days for a padded envelope to reach egypt...through USPS
and yeah 99% it will get through customs they sometimes dun even bother opening small/cheap stuff :D
I dunno abt the seeds...u know my datura both metel and inoxia didnt germinate at first...then i found some seedlings popping up in the recycled peat...next to some supertunias..i hope that brugmansia would do that for my sake too :D
im not even sure that they r inoxia and metel...im such a newbie :( ...but they both have hairy stems and hairy leaves.

ok but its really a tiny seedling :D !! it just has a semi true leaf :D, it germinated a week ago.
i dunno if they lose the hair when they get older :D that would be sad for them :(

The seedlings look like the leaves are quite long and narrow. Is this normal for some Datura? Mine always seemed to be not so narrow.

Why not try here and find out. It would take very little work to take a couple Brug cuttings as one would normally do, pack them up and put them in a box for 3 weeks. Presumably cuttings at differerent stages of maturity would be a good idea. And if one is motivated a couple ways of packing them might be ideal.

Is there any possibility they would root over that period of time? If so, why not use something that needs to be propagated anyway?

I suppose one concern might be that customs will open the box and inspect the cuttings. So methods where the cuttings might best survive after being removed and handled would be ideal. Perhaps sending lots of cuttings packed separately in something transparent would avoid this.

I've read that Passiflora sent in plastic bags sometimes root over a period of two to three weeks. If a method like that were attempted, presumably woody bits without leaves would be ideal. Would such pieces rot or even need to photosynthesize over that period?

I root B. vulcanicola cuttings (and many other plants) in 100% humidity, often with poor lighting. For me Brugs are more prone to rot than almost anything, but still many survive. I almost never have a problem with other plants.

By the way, if someone claims your shipping methods are inadequate over a 2-3 day trip, letting something sit around in a box for a week can tell you whether the problem is the fault of USPS and/or due to the recipient's neglect. Unless the problem is due to evaporation, you'll almost always find it's the latter.

I know that you can ship cuttings in a bubble envelope and they do well. If you ship in a box it takes forever and is very expensive. The envelope travels just like a letter. Also a box is more apt to be opened and looked @. I've mailed envelopes and it's taken sometimes 16 days and the cuttings had rooted in route...

what if someone on this forum sent her some cuttings via fed-ex or u.p.s? just for the halibut i just went to the fedex website. a 2 pound pkg shipped international priority would take 5 days & cost $87.00. oddly it was $3.00 more to ship international economy which would take 7 days. a 1 pound pkg would be $75.09/$76.09.

it's also more than i'd spend. i just threw it out as an option if survival is a worry & she wants cuttings badly enough. regular overseas postage is still probably in the $30.00-$40.00 range with the chance that they won't survive.
