Rerouting duplicate Rating threads

Hi All,

I've been doing this and notice others are too. I'm pasting my new standardized posting so that I don't have to keep typing it...and so you can use it too (feel free to modify).

I'm including links to the member's original Rating Thread, and also instructions for how to do a search. Chemocurl, I noticed your rerouting posts sound less dry than mine... I'm thinking that if we add this "how to search" in addition to an original-ratings-found-here link, we might slowly be able "weed out" this duplication problem. It may be a longshot, but...

I've found that one member's rating post I had rerouted has alread gotten another new thread started again (now Ibartoo has 3)...so there are enough people who are not doing searches, and if gardenweb can't fix it maybe we can :)

The post I'm currently using is below, I know it's stiff, but I hope to keep it instructional/direct. Comments welcome, we can make a nice hybrid if we want to all us the same one:

To keep this Rating forum effective:

Please do a search for the member before starting a new thread.

*Go to the center of the page...right below the postings (not the one at the very very bottom of the page)

*Enter the name

*Check the box for "This Forum"

(so it doesn't search the whole Gardenweb site)

*Click Search.

To leave feedback for MEMBER, please go to MEMBER'S Original Rating Thread (link is below).

"Please post all new reviews for this (insert)member name at the link provided below".

I did notice that when one does a search that the Original thread will be the first one listed, then followed by other threads with that member name in the subject line, then followed by others that the member has started or replied to, or that is mentioned in one of the generic group reviews.

I have felt like kind of a busy body (again) referring to the original thread, but have only done it with a few...mostly folks I know or that I have traded with myself...or a few baddies joining under numerous member names.

I'd like to think of it as "administrative tendancies" instead of busy-body-ness :)

What if we used the one you have posted as the reroute on new threads, and come up with an instructional version too (like mine, but without the reroute parts). We can post it at the top of the main page -- with a request for no responses to it. we can route anyone who wants to help with the tweeking to come to this thread here to help discuss. And for any revision, we just add a post to get the earlier one bumped down....and if anyone posts there and bumps it anyway, we just repost.

Just to keep a "Hey, read this before you post!" guide right at the top of the page :) could help lots of people, and keep things more consolidated.

Watta ya (and everyone else) think?

What am I missing? First you must go to the Rate and Review Forum You can find it by going to the top of any page here, and hovering your cursor over Forums at the bottom of the green banner. There will be a drop down box. Choose Garden Forums...then scroll to the bottom of the page where all forums are in alphabetical order. After you once get there, you follow the instructions for the Forum...they are posted at the top of the forum. Go to the search box found just below the list of threads, and put in the exact member name. If a review thread has been started, it will bring it up. You can then see who has said what for that member...much like the Feedback on an ebay member. You can then make a decision as to whether or not you want to trade with the member. If there is no review thread, the member is either quite new, has not done much trading in a while (forum was started in Nov 2006), or they have had the misfortune to have traded with folks who either do not know about the Rate and Review Forum, or those who do not believe in posting to it, or members who just plain forgot. If you are left wondering about the member, you can feel free to email me, or any others who are quite active here...maybe agirlsgirl, or medontdo. Once your trade is complete, then you do the search thing there and post to an existing review thread for the member, and if there is not one started, you are to start it, being sure to list the member name exactly as it is spelled in the Subject of Posting line. You can then leave a review, stating if it was a plant or seed trade, and just how it went. Whew...quite loquacious, wasn't I? Sue...resident busy body

I believe in "MO BETTER." Like Jo, if one is good, the MO is BETTER. With plantaginea, I have 8. Sagae has 2 in one pot, I want to see a big plant quicker. Royal Standard, about 3, because I love it and it is fertile So Sweet 2 Frozen Margarita 2 Grape Fizz 2 Honeybells 2 Whirlwind 2 August Moon 2 Midas Touch 2 Invincible Spirit 2 Victory 2 planted in one pot Paradise Island 2 in one pot, looking gorgeous still Goodness, I could go on, but it is my policy to get the 2nd of its kind from a different source for several reasons....one being it is beautiful hosta....another being it is a way to check the growth habit which might be different if from a different tissue culture. I especially like to try for OS (originator stock) if available, and compare it to TC (tissue cultures). I have 2 Fortunei Hyacinthinas because they look so different. One is the light version, the other is apparently the darker version. As I discover the duplicate is the same as my original and it is healthy, I am sometimes planting them in the same pot--but that goes against my cautious nature, since if they are mixed I have no way of knowing with which plant a virus originates. Heck, I am only now beginning to merge hosta from various nurseries in the same row. Before, I had them isolated in "classrooms" which helped me identify each cultivar (because I knew what I purchased from them). As I discover some hosta (especially a fragrant one) produce large amounts of seedpods, I tend to get a duplicate of it.

I received the last package today so now the fun begins. Actually I have worked on it all along so maybe the sorting won't be as bad. I had a list on which I gave everyone a number. When their package came in, I put that number on each package of seed so I would not give someone back their own seed. Then I made a list of what they sent in for the swap and put it all on a spreadsheet so hopefully I don't send them back the same kind of thing they sent in. I have another list that shows what they would like to have (if I have it). Maybe I can make all of this work. Some of you sent seeds marked for Diane and I didn't do anything to them except look at them. Lucky Diane! Thanks to all of you for caring about each other. George sent a wish list with only herbs and flowers and since I had not included herbs and flowers in the swap instructions, his share will be limited, but he knows that. However, he was very generous in sharing his seeds with us. In return, please offer a prayer in behalf of he and his family as they are experiencing some employment trials at this time. Jay said he was sending a little box with a few seeds. HaHa It was not a little box, nor was it a few seeds. I have repackaged some of the bulk packs that he sent and he says he doesn't want anything back either. I am sending him a couple of things anyway so he can try Dawn's new tomato, and the cowhorn okra I traded for earlier in the year for him. Almost everyone sent more than the required amount and two people want little or nothing back, so we will have some extra packets that will be included in your package. Actually Diane, it hasn't been too much of a mess. I took out all of the packets and put numbers on them, wrote down what was in the packs, and returned them all to the original package. I did this as they came in then kept them all in a clothes basket. Today, however, the mess begins and I have my entire dining room table covered with seeds. LOL I have seen the variety of seeds that Dawn and Jay have, and we still have our own king and queen of gardening on this forum. Dearest Remy, my heart is hurting for you about Creton. I know that you will be giving him lots of extra love and attention. I was in your situation a little over a year ago with my kitty, Kiki. I cried lots of tears, too. I DO want to thank you for the treMENdous box of plants that you sent. Again, I am just bowled over by your giving spirit. Roses! Oh, how I love roses! I have a special area that I have set aside for roses. It's a sort of memory garden to honor the wonderful lady who sold us our piece of heaven. Mildred, our landlady when we farmed, sold us land that had been in her family for 100 years. People just don't do that here in Iowa, but she did, and we will always love her for it. She was a "rose" person. Thus, my rose garden. Thank you for the roses Belle de Crecy and Rosa Glauca. Thank you also for these: -Campanula persifolia-pics of it look so pretty. -Iris flavescens-another beauty! -Geranium 'Biokovo'-I have started collecting these kinds of geranums and have them planted on the west side of our home on a small slope. -Salvia transylvanica-the blue color in pics is my favorite color of blue -Candy lilies-anxious to see color(s) -Veronica gentianoides-another pretty color -Sedum album-I looked this one up and the plantfiles called it "Chunky Fingers!" LOL That's just how it looks, too. -Tradescantia 'Bilberry Ice'-I don't have this one and have been wanting it. Thanks! -Euonymus--looks very interesting. It seems that maybe the newer members are the ones not familiar with doing a search, so I posted to a few threads. Hopefully the OP will see my reply, and not be offended, but instead enlightened.

Here is what I used...but I really think lots of wording is fine...just so long as we get some rerouted sometimes.

Other great reviews for ddkcat can be found at the original review thread.

Per the instructions:
To create the best user experience, please keep all reviews for a particular member in one thread and before posting a new thread, use the forum's search feature to see if one has already been started....at least when the search is working.

Please post new reviews to the link below to the original thread.

Then I included a link to the Original review thread for member JOHNDOE

Keeping a thread totally at the top just won't work...though hopefully 'near the top' as Remy's is will at least help some.

Regeardless of what is posted where, there will still be some members who either won't see it or read it.

Sue, I think those posts are great. Nice wording to boot.

I have to admit, I've rerouted a bunch of new threads recently for my screenname, but have less steam for rerouting the others. Will keep an eye on Remys help thread and, as you said, hopefully it'll stay near the top.

It might never be perfect, but at least this forum is a great thing overall.

Well, am I over the top on this? I saw a new thread started. The member (Janedoe we'll say) already had one or more threads under her name.

I did copying of the instructions thingy, and then asked that all future reviews be posted to the 'original' review thread....and provided the link.

Then I went to the 'original' one and copied and pasted the review from the new thread, that can then be deleted, or drop off at page 67 sometime in the future...whatever.

I know it might not matter too much what drops off, as the very oldest ones I'm guessing are no longer active traders, but for those that are active, I hate to see some of their reviews drop off because of them being spread over 2,3, 5, or 10 threads.

Speaking of numerous review threads, I wonder just who have the most threads started for them. Anyone?

Also...I think it best to direct them to the 'original' thread unless the name is mispelled (as Remy found one to be the other day) or unless the original one has a lot fewer reviews than a more recent one. Clear as mud? Thoughts?

Sue...who may be going over the top...think?

WOW! I wish I had read this a couple months ago.... LOL.... Oooops...

I didn't even know that there was a conversation side to this forum as well. I had figured it out at the Seed Exchange, but not here until just recently. They really should make that link different and bigger so you realize it's another related forum...
