I root cuttings of golden pothos in water almost weekly... Yes I have them in every room of my home and so do all my family and friends now lol! All I do is locate the longest stems on my mother/parent plant and cut about 12 in. from bottom-just above the little knots that become ariel roots (so that u include them at the base of your cutting-these will now turn into ur roots) Next I fill a vase with water..I use a pur water system on my tap. the vase should be no more than half filled because it will cause roots too high on the stem. I make sure to remove all leaves that would be under water with clean scissors. I simply place stems in the vase and then place it in indirect light. This method works time and time again for me and never has problems with transitioning from the water to soil.. but I'm sorry I'm really no pro botanist so I'm sure there are more scientific ways to do this. Now, ur philodendron grows slower than my pothos but they are similar in other ways, so I hope this helps. But nothing ventured, nothing gained-so give it a try! Also, I beleive u can also just place the cuttings in moist soil and it will have the same effect.. something to ponder. Good luck!

I put a bleeding heart in the shade under a mulberry tree in April or May. It was a luminous chartreuse green almost all summer. In the past month or so it has gradually turned yellow and now it is almost completely gone. It has all turned brown and died back except for a few very tiny leaves on one stem and that one looks like it's headed in the same direction. Is this normal? It is next to my huge elephant ears. It seems that as they got lusher, my bleeding heart got punier. Could it be the mulberry tree? I also planted a beautiful Siberian bugloss close by which thrived at first. Then quit blooming and then one day I went out and the entire plant was black and dead. All are in total shade. Can anyone help? Thanks.

hi, purple! i'd think that instead of water it'll be better to root it half buried in moist perlite or long fibre sphag. the cane might rot in water. i rooted Ph. subinsicum cane with 2 juvie 7" leaves and the cane about 6" long and 1.5" fat. i put it horizontally in loose peanut shells, sterilized: nuke in microwave 4 min with some water and cool. and some small amount of LF sphag to keep moisture. tented, of course. so very loose substrate. but even that kept rotting the cane end. So i finally turned it in such a way, as to stick the end out in the air to keep it dry. it finally callused after sev weeks.

Since you have only had the plant a short time, what caused this is probably over now. It doesn't look like bugs. My guess is one of the following, maybe even both. It looks like cold damage. Did it go from the store out into cold air, and ride in a cold car. It's hard to believe this can cause such damage, but it can. If that is the case, it will grow new leaves eventually. It looks like a strong plant despite the leaf damage. It could also be that it got too thirsty in the past. The kind of leaf damage it has makes me think this is a response to watering mistakes made before you got the plant. I believe you would see some lower leaves yellowing too, if overwatering were the issue. Look closely to eliminate bugs. Don't get the soil soaking wet when you water. They don't want the kind of water a spider plant wants. They also like to dry a bit between waterings. I would let it go dry about half way down the pot, before I watered. Is it giving any new growth. That would make me think it'll be fine. Good luck.
