something's eating two of my three peonies!

hi, all.

i was given three peonies about two years ago (they're still youngsters). i have no deer and no bunnies (that i know of, anyway).

one is taller, doing well, and sporting buds. the other two--right next to the taller one--have little bite-marks on their leaves.

when i first observed this, i blamed my special nemesis: earwigs. it doesn't make sense, though, that one would be cruising right along, and the other two nibbled.

i spritzed them all (just once) with insecticidal soap. no soap (please pardon the pun).

any ideas? i'm on the verge of digging the two smaller ones up and potting them until i get this figgered out.

thanks!
