Never seen any that color!

In any event, grubs in a compost are scavengers. They won't bother people or plants in any way.

Tee hee, I was waiting for SOMEone to comment on that color! What the heck have you been feeding those grubs, is my question.

I think the color is a little off because of the shade. Are the heads reddish brown? I'm thinking Japanese beetle or June bug larvae. If so you need to heat up the compost pile to kill them.

Japanese beetles don't live in compost. They eat live roots. Ditto for June bugs.

As far as I know, it's the grub of the Green Fruit Beetle that is most famous for making its home in compost piles.

I've never seen any that appear to be so vivid BLUE, however.

The adult Green Fruit Beetle feeds on ripe fruits. Not exclusively rotting fruit, but ripe. They might be found in huge hoards, though, feasting on fallen fruit in an orchard. I've found them in the garden on the ready-to-pick tomatoes, darn them.

The grubs feed on organic matter, which is why they'll be found in the compost heap. They are not considered damaging to plants.

Yes, brown head, a little off-white near the head & blue-green on the bottom half. I saw some photos of white grubs, but they seem to have a more consistently white body.

Green Fruit Beetle grubs.

June bug/beetle, green fruit beetle, it's all good.

Those grubs are the larva of one of a num,ber of the Scarab Beetle clan which includes the Japanese Beetle, June Bug, Green Fruit Beetle, etc. I have found them not just in sod, turf, but in piles of animal manure as well, sometimes, my compost. While most may prefer plant roots as a diet they will eat most anyting to stay alive and are not limited to just plant roots.
