the Lady in Red is showing first blooms, so far they look mostly white/green with a pale pink on the edges. And sadly it has some brown spots on the leaves. We've had a lot of rainy days. It is facing East, full sun in the morning till 1:30pm, then shade rest of the day.

Is there something I can spray it with?

Hard to tell with that quality pic. Likely fungal. Spray with a fungicide or neem.

Hmm. Well here's another opinion.

I doubt that's a disease. But a closer view might help determine that.

Probably a fungus like leaf spot. I've never done it, but you could probably treat it with a fungicide if it really, really bothers you. I see it lots. It seems to me to be a good barometer of the stress that the plant is going through. For me, if the plant is not stressed I see very little of it. And so if I see it, I try to find the source of the stress. Being in the ground for only a month is pretty stressful for a plant. Good Luck. Hay.

The brown spots appear to be common hydrangea leaf spots, sometimes a fungal infection called Cercospora Leaf Spot. See here for more info: http://www.aces.edu/pubs/docs/A/ANR-1212/ANR-1212.pdf Most of the time, this is caused by overhead watering. If you do this, try watering the soil instead and do it very early in the mornings. Clean up plant debris that may contain spores, discard leaves in the Fall on the trash and, if you can afford it and the problem is bad enough in your opinion, replace the mulch too. You can also apply fungicides and the article mentions some of them but they can be $$ expensive so I just follow those suggestions when it comes to the ones that I too have with leaf spot. I am not sure about the loss of leaves. Sounds mysterious since you have not mentioned anything that would account for that. Normally, this would require something like not watering it (the rootball dries out for example), winter damage or applying insecticides or fungicides to the plant or to nearby plants. Leaf spot can make the plant loose some of these leaves as they first appear to have the lesions and sometimes the leafs brown out and fall. But usually the infestation is not THAT bad. If Bluebird lost the leaves in this way then you may want to spray after all as that is kind of a big thing in my opinion. I normally see this issue on mine by late August or in September so this is kind of early. And I just live with the problem until the plant goes dormant in December. Then I carefully cut the leaves off without touching the stems (invisible 2016 Spring flower buds will usually be near the end of the stems).

I'm not finding photos of necrotic blight, but other blights show darker spots with a circular pattern not seen on my leaves. Also my fruit is unaffected. Septoria Leaf Spot sounds and looks similar to what mine have. Either way, the treatment is removal of affected leaves and a copper spray. I will do both as well as a preventative spray on my other tomatoes. Thanks, Omni.

Interesting challenge.

That might be an obligate Pseudomonas leaf spot taking the opportunity to propagate from the weakened defenses caused by some environmental factor, judging by the (dis)coloration pattern. I'd verify the soil is well-drained and has good OM and nutrients available. I wouldn't wager on this diagnosis with the paucity of info given, but that's my 2Â¢ at this point. I'm still happy with fungal as well, with just some necrosis here and there from the moisture stress, and some of that discoloration indicates moisture stress.

Wow, Dan , that's a mouthfull of terminology ;-) Thanks. I know the drainage is good and I mulch the area around it. We did have lots of rain, but it also get plenty of morning sun till high noon. Should I feed it with some particular nutrient? Any spraying needed?

My other, older and bigger hydrangea is simetrically on the other side of the door, so it faces the same way, but it gets a dappled sun in the morning and afternoon. I noticed couple smaller brown spots on its leafs too. Otherwise, the plants look healthy and flower.

Sorry, in my own little writing world right now. Apparently I didn't come out fully when I wrote that upthread...

Never fert a stressed plant, and I don't know that anything will really fix the fact that some leaf tissues died and the decomposers are moving in, as we expect.

I had a Philadelphus get hit a couple weeks ago with a little fungus (very odd here where we expect single-digit humidity). I squirted with neem and removed a couple branch tips and it took care of itself. If yours spreads to more leaves, remove affected lvs, coat the plant with neem around dawn or dusk, otherwise it should just run its course, hit a few lvs and go away - provided the diagnosis is correct...probably lots of that in your part of the country this year.
