What do you guys think of this?

I planted my parajubaea torallyi outside about 10 days ago after acclimating it over a period of a week from inside gradually to full sun. Lowest temperature it has seen is 35F. I don't know if this is transplant shock, or if it is just going downhill. Almost everything has turned brown to brownish/green except for right down where the spear comes out. There has been no signs of growth, but the spear doesn't pull out yet. I'm wondering if you guys think it's going to grow and recover, or if I should just rip it out and put something else in to get established this summer. I don't want to wait until August for it to come back because then its too late to get some growth before winter. Here are some pictures.

Looks like shock to me. I would bet that it will recover but maybe not as fast as you had hoped. 35 is pretty chilly but I dont think it was cold enough to do that damage.

Did you buy this one on ebay ? The reason i asked is i bought one too and it done exactly the same thing.

Love parsons chairs, would guess those chairs are very soiled. If they are, slip covers are your best bet. The nicer ones can be up to $169 each, and you have to get better quality slips with a camel back top than a straight top to make sure they fit well. IF you can get them for $25 they're a bargain, but remember the total price (you'll still have to clean and disinfect them, and I would do it commercially if there's been a cat sleeping on them) will likely be over $200 each by the time they are in service in your home.

Congrats, you did a great job! As for the last question I would stay with all pulls. If the kitchen was for you I would say really mix it up and put all different shapes (a la igloochic) to add interest. Since cheap and cheerful is the order of the day doing all pulls will look better on the simple lines of the cabinets. In a space with so few doors/drawers I think mixing knobs and pulls would look odd.

Before you go any further pick up the book What Not to Build. Trust me it will help you. I can say it helped with my build. I'm sorry but this is too complicated. The book I recommended will explain why in more detail. The thing that bothers me the most other than those oversized windows all competing for attention is the feeling that the second floor is going to crush the first floor. It feels taller than the first floor! And second floor windows shouldn't overpower the house by being larger than the first floor windows. There are 4 different materials on the front elevation and 4 different window styles which have no relationship to one another. The garage door wood is vertical yet the wood under the windows is horizontal. Then you have the chimney? sticking up with no relation to anything else. It just cuts the house in half and doesn't even continue up to the second floor. On the left first floor you have stucco above the windows but on the right side the windows continue up to the ceiling. Again nothing cohesive between them. There are too many competing things with too many materials and too many different planes. There is no focal point.

Okay, to be honest it is promising, but hard to determine because of it being so early in the framing; it could take a turn for the worse. The house to the right appears to have a bit of a "modern prairie" design to it (that's a play on the imaginary term "modern farmhouse"). Many time a designer will paste prairie style details to a house and call it a prairie design, without regard for any grid system or spacial relationships. If we haven't chased you off, could you post some exterior elevations and floor plans of the structure.

You have a palm that has been grown in a greenhouse and put it in the ground with soil tempts that are at 45*F at best. The palm is in transplant shock. Don't expect any growth until soil temps are 55*F or better.

Yep I bought it on Ebay. My soil temperatures are 57, checked this afternoon.

This is a hard time of year for palms with the temps so up and down,it will take time but it will recover.

parajubaea hate root disturbance, so if they came bare rooted it may explain this. I must say it does not look good, and i think you may be a bit optomistic about its recovery Jim but i really hope you are right.

The best thing you can do right now is pull the mulch back a foot and a half away from it!mulch this time of year keeps the soil from warming up.Everyone of my palms that I planted this early last year did what yours is doing,a week is not enough time for any plant to adjust to the spring/outside weather but there it is,you should see rapid recovery by July,both of my waggies were down to one leaf last spring after early planting(they both started with 9)one grew 5 new leaves and one a couple,they both made it through winter fine and are working on there second leaves already,let it go for now,it will recover as is if it's going to.

For planting Palms into the ground, ideally they should have a robust root system ready to bust out of a 5-7 gal container...and it should be done when the air and ground temps are very warm. In the north, wait at least until the oaks have fully leafed out.

If what you have is smaller, put it in a pot so you can better control the growth. When you put a small-ish Palm directly outside, it may have a hard time acclimating and doesn't have a large enough starch reserve in the root system to compensate.
