Kitchen ALMOST done, what do you guys think?

Hey guys. I have finally on the home stretch on my rental remodel.

The link on the bottom is the link to the GardenWeb page where I asked for and got a lot of useful advice and ideas. Thanks for all your input, guys.

I don't mean to brag, but I got really great deals on the cabinets (Brannd new RTA closeouts - $600.00), sink (Home Depot Closeout - $105.00), granite countertops(Made from remant pieces - $525), Applliances (Foreclosure sale$650.00), otherwise I couldn't have done it.

I found alot of the deals on Craiglist, btw! Thank you Craig Newmark!!!

It is pretty much DIY, except the major electric, plumbing-he is a friend of mine, granite- a friend of a friend, and having my nephew helping when I got off work and on weekends.

I have cancelled THREE finalization appointments with the cabinet maker. I HAVE to make a decision. What the heck is wrong that I can't make a decision? I don't want to make a mistake. When I look at kitchens, googling all different combinations, this is what I feel.... The white island with wood top makes my heart leap. The Alder island with white top makes my heart leap. No wood on wood, no white on white, no wood with anything other than white, and no white with anything other than wood. (for the island) So, how do you decide? I LOVE the white perimeter, wood island contrast. But, I Don't love giving up the wood top on the island. It makes me sick to my stomach just thinking of giving up on it. Now, for a bit of information that might make a difference in your suggestions, I just bought the antique table with three chairs that will sit on the end of the island. It is 3'x3', and it is oak. This has been in the plan all along, a small table at the end of the island for the grandkids or me and DH when just the two of us. The large dining table is caddy-corner from the kitchen and it will be a 10' farmhouse table with walnut top. Should I just say "that is enough wood" and call it good? And, no wood top on island? (sick feeling) The "side" kitchen is planned white cabinets which houses fridge/freezer, oven, and microwave. Would it look like I bought some craigslist cabinets and threw them in there if I have those made alder? It's clearly visible to the main area of the kitchen. I think I need a therapist.

What do you guys think of these jars for spice storage?

Since you've seen my spice drawer, that is a 24 inch frameless drawer. I have one for spices and one next to it for utensils. Having my spice drawer meant having a utensil crock on the counter for the other utensils. Anyway, that drawer holds about 110 jars and that the round ones. They allow me to get my fingers in between the tops. The narrower top on the Victorian jars should also. Mine are 2.25 inches wide while the Victorian are 2 inches. I don't know the width of your drawer, but you would get more of the Victorian in the same space as mine. That's a lot of spice jars. Have you figured out how many you can fit or how many you need? I know some folks balk at the idea of buying matching jars or having to set them all up, but the ease of use over the years has been well worth it. I also bought a Brother label maker with laminated tape for the tops. It was a good excuse for an upgrade -- and they seem to go on half price sale fairly often. The laminated tape keeps them cleaner than regular labels or paper tape. I've been using these for close to 8 years now and I'll never go back. I know that drawers are tough to give up, but when you think about how much cabinet or pantry space you free up, it's a lot easier. I would stay with a top drawer if at all possible -- the jars are right there at your fingertips when you need them. I was supposed to have a 4 drawer stack where I would up with a 3, so I looked at adding a roll-out tray inside the top of that middle drawer. I haven't done it, but that could be an option for you in terms of getting some of the organization you might like in the deeper drawers.

Sueb, it looks great! I love that it has some height to it for mixing drinks or serving platters. Initially I liked the first painting even though it was dark, bc I liked how it had green and the wall was green and then the bottom half of the wall was red with the cabinet and rug. But the second print looks so much better bc of how bright it makes it look. The first was definitely a dark hole. There is some extra room on the sides of the print but I kind of like it. Maybe see what kind of items will sit on the cabinet before adding more art. In case you have a tall something. You did great!

Also, color swatches online should never be trusted. I have been pouring over hundreds of paint colors and when I think I like one to get a swatch in store I hate it in my house (my house gets hardly any light) so the colors I think are way too bright online actually darken a lot in my house and work well. If you like it in your house, it doesn't matter what it looks like on a computer screen. I don't know what brand of paint those are but I know with Behr you can see how much green, blue, red and yellow they put in a color, some of them I could tell instantly which color was predominant, some really surprised me.

Wow! Looks great! Your tenants will be so lucky to get such a nice kitchen. I remember the back and forth on the layouts and think you picked a winner. Good move, swapping the sink & dw in your drawing. It would have been difficult to put away dishes with the dw on the right. Definitely, brag away. Great job!

Wow it looks amazing - and for so little money! I love your deals! I was trying to tell my mom to look for remnant granite since her kitchen is also small, but she just went for laminate instead. Great work!!

I have a question for you guys. I need some ideas for the cabinet pulls/knobs. I am kinda stumped. I am thinking about getting some of the knobs that Target has in the home improvement section for like $10. They are round and are satin nickle finish. Should I go wih all knobs or a combination of knobs and pulls?

Congrats, you did a great job!

As for the last question I would stay with all pulls. If the kitchen was for you I would say really mix it up and put all different shapes (a la igloochic) to add interest. Since cheap and cheerful is the order of the day doing all pulls will look better on the simple lines of the cabinets. In a space with so few doors/drawers I think mixing knobs and pulls would look odd.
