Comments (6)Let me be a bit of a wet blanket. It looks fine. But, in a nice warm environment, scion can produce a lot of growth, without the graft union forming. So, keep an eye on it. Second, for future grafting, success is usually increased by wrapping the scion in parafilm to reduce moisture loss while the graft union forms. Fit you pieces, then wrap the scion almost down to the graft point, then assemble and tie them together. From here: the actual connection is very thin (cambium thick), to do not be in a hurry to remove what is holding the graft point together. Let it continue to grow through the season. Do not allow fruit to form, as the weight may well cause the graft to break. Let all the buds grow. You can always prune for shape, etc when it is dormant. Unless you want to start training one shoot to be vertical to form a longer trunk, then maybe keep two shoots after it is well established, and then maybe down to one later one, to channel the energy to the one you want to keep. Whip and tongue is a very good graft which is easy to do, and gives good stability at the graft interface....See MoreWhat do you think about this guy?
Comments (10)When the flowers are spent, cut them off. Leave as many leaves & as much of the stalk as you can---the chlorophyll that is in them is what is going to convert the sun's energy to next year's flowers. I asume you have staked that monster---if you haven't you might want to. Flowers are the plant's way to do sex, as you know from school days---if you leave the ovaries (where the seeds develop, pods behind the flower in lilies) on the plant, the plant will think of nothing except making the next generation & will devote all its energy to ripening those seeds. Cut off the pod & the plant will stil think of nothing except making the next generation, except now it will have to concentrate on making the flowers for next year, when it will try again. When the stalk loses its green, cut it down to a little above the ground. This is not likely to happen until well into autumn. Giving it some more well rotted compost won't hurt, but don't do it when the plant is about to go dormant for winter. I think it is an LA I saw in the Scheepers catalog---go check out the online version. Beautiful boy, too!...See MoreWhat do you think about this sideboard?
Comments (9)It's a nice one! Like the rest have already mentioned, it can be used in a foyer, a living room or family room or even in a kitchen if your table or cabs will allow for it. I used one in my last house in our guest room as a long nightstand. If you have the room and the height is ok, you can use it as a sofa table, if yours floats in the room like mine does. Don't forget to show us what you do with it if you do get it. Lynn...See MoreWhat do you guys think?
Comments (4)I think it's good to keep your expectations low so that: A) this girl doesn't feel like she is *wrong* or *bad* for wanting to be with her maternal side of the family B) you don't get your feelings hurt, either That all said----my mom and grandparents, particularly my grandmother, have completely enveloped my SS in love and welcoming. So much so that recently, when my grandfather received an award at a university, the program for the ceremony listed his three great-grandchildren. EXCEPT, wait for it, my grandfather only has TWO biological great-grandchildren. BUT they included my SS--with his name and age---as one of the great-grandchildren. Same thing for their anniversary party last year---they referenced, in toasts, their great-grandson _____. My grandma is fan-freakng-tastic. Well, she is just a great grandma all around but she treats my SS as her own! Really, truly does, from birthdays to presents to 'I love yous* and hugs. It is so sweet. My mom is great about it, too. Really wonderful. As a result, my SS feels like a total part of the family---because he IS. He comes on vacations with my side of the family and even last year came with ME without his father. His mom wanted him to stay home with her but he stood up and just said, "Mom, it's going to be fun, I really want to go!" He recently (bless his heart) told my hubby that he worries about my grandma dying because her hands are wrinkly and she's so old. :( He just loves her. So---I think, as Silver said, there can NEVER be too many people loving a child. If your family wants to send your SD gifts or be involved in her life, I think they should as much as possible. Nothing bad can come from that. IMO....See MoreRelated Professionals
