What do you think about this guy?
Comments (10)When the flowers are spent, cut them off. Leave as many leaves & as much of the stalk as you can---the chlorophyll that is in them is what is going to convert the sun's energy to next year's flowers. I asume you have staked that monster---if you haven't you might want to. Flowers are the plant's way to do sex, as you know from school days---if you leave the ovaries (where the seeds develop, pods behind the flower in lilies) on the plant, the plant will think of nothing except making the next generation & will devote all its energy to ripening those seeds. Cut off the pod & the plant will stil think of nothing except making the next generation, except now it will have to concentrate on making the flowers for next year, when it will try again. When the stalk loses its green, cut it down to a little above the ground. This is not likely to happen until well into autumn. Giving it some more well rotted compost won't hurt, but don't do it when the plant is about to go dormant for winter. I think it is an LA I saw in the Scheepers catalog---go check out the online version. Beautiful boy, too!...See MoreWhat do you guys think of this?
Comments (9)The best thing you can do right now is pull the mulch back a foot and a half away from it!mulch this time of year keeps the soil from warming up.Everyone of my palms that I planted this early last year did what yours is doing,a week is not enough time for any plant to adjust to the spring/outside weather but there it is,you should see rapid recovery by July, both of my waggies were down to one leaf last spring after early planting(they both started with 9)one grew 5 new leaves and one a couple, they both made it through winter fine and are working on there second leaves already, let it go for now,it will recover as is if it's going to....See MoreWhat do you guys think of garage door overhangs/eyebrows?
Comments (6)Hi stacyneil, No pics yet...we aren't finished. But those Pro Wood people have literally hundreds of cool brackets and good pergola components you should look at! I feel like doing a big ad for them on the kitchens forum because they have cool (simple) corbels for counter overhangs and range hood mantels and of course fireplaces. I had someone make brackets for the outside of our mudroom door and they're so awful compared to what I could have gotten if I had known about these guys earlier! I really like the pergola idea... And I am "Vintage Cream in the City" kitchen--HOPE that's the fabulous one! (-: (-: (-: ~Amy...See MoreWhat do you think of this antique mirror for my sideboard?
Comments (20)jejvtr: What a pretty and unusual mirror. I would snap that up in a heartbeat if that were on Craigslist! (And, yours too, Red!) You are right the sideboards are quite similar. I have just fallen in love with antique mahagony. New mahogany just does not have that same vibrant look. Your mirror will look lovely raised up. What are the dimensions of your mirror? I think I'm going to buy the second one on Craigslist that I pictured on Monday that is 42x24. The gilt is brighter and is on a smaller scale than the first--plus original glass. I spoke to the lady and she seems in no hurry to sell which is great for me as we have guests this weekend and that is the soonest I can get there. If I get this one, this will make the second item I've bought in my home from children helping their aged parents downsize their homes. Kind of sad, at the same, time, I feel these people must've loved these items and would like to see them appreciated again....See MoreSueb20
