Looks like I'll be tomato and garden-less tomorrow. 80 mph winds coming with this storm. I will not replant if I lose them again.

Oh no! I can't believe this.

If they get flattened or damaged really bad, prune them off low to the ground if there's nothing left, and they still likely will regrow.

I lost pretty much all above-ground growth to a hailstorm around 2001 or 2002. It might even have been 2000. I cut off all the damage and had nothing left but stumps sticking up out of the ground in late May, but was harvesting tomatoes and peppers beginning in late July. They regrew with a vengeance and produced really well. You just never know how plants react to a pounding.....

I'm crossing all my fingers and toes and hoping for the best.

Hi you.. I don't use the FE and Neem at once..If I have a severe break out, that is if, I use just the Neem and treat all my plants at night or early am, out from the sun.. I use the FE as a preventative which so far has worked wonders for me.. I had to use the Neem on plants I forgot to spray with FE all summer, and use it on plants that got attacked by someone else's plants infested at work.. Use them separately, Neem only with an infestation you can not get rid of, and the FE as a general spray for a preventative, although I know some that use FE and to smother the sucking insects that will not handle the oils.I spray in the am, even when the sun on them with the FE, and my plants never burn..I suppose the oil on Neem is much mr potent and stronger... Now in relation to your plants, I would spray them all with Neem only. Put a 1/2 teaspoon of soap, dish washing unless you have natural, and shake it well...Spray the underneath and tops of leaves. Spray the whole trunk, branches and pots.. If Rhizzo sees this thread, she may have a bit more to add.. DO NOT SPRAY this Neen oil during the hot part of the day, Tonight is good, and so is the am..I wish you had coco wet..I put this in everything to help improver sticking and wetting of anything I ned to stay on the leaves.. After a few days, start spraying down your plants at least once a week with FE.. Let us know what you do and take pictures, ok..:-) Mike

Good Evening to All of You, Back home and lots to do as always but need to get away sometimes. I enjoyed reading all your posts but have to agree with Luvs. I'm feeling sad and sick with the loss of Anj's little neighbor girl. Can't imagine being without my GD who is 4. She is the LIGHT of my LIFE and then some. Losing a child is a tough thing to handle and all I can say is time does help heal. It's been 33 years since we lost our son and it's hard for me to see others have to go through this. Anj, come on up and I'll not only airbrush your nails but will apply the acrylic. Do you want colored tips or french with a different color smile line or just french? haha You are so busy with the kids and it's great that you are going back to camp and being the photographer. Nice memories from our childhood huh. Makes me reminise while sitting here. We started GD in swimming lessons for 4 weeks last week and she's excited that she can float and breath under water while swimming. So fun to hear the excitement when she's done with her lesson and she's so hungry. Normally she doesn't eat much. I got to take her the first day so it was great to visit with our phone customers while waiting. DD happened to go to a pool where one little one is 3 and was jumping off the high dive. She was so impressed that she ask the mom who taught her to swim and it was one of our customers who also just started a preschool. She has taught school for years and decided several years ago to put in a pool at her home instead of renting someone else's. I have't had the time to just visit so was really behind on what was going on in her life. All of her four children have been top graduates and so it's to bad DG already has a preschool that she loves. Luvs, your nails shouldn't be real thin after having acrylics on. Some nails are more sensitive with exposure. However if they are you can help them by applying a few coats of clear until they are use to being exposed again. A couple of weeks should do it. I applied acrylic to DD toes for the summer and she loves them. I have mine airbrushed french with NIKE designs. Luvs, what will you do in Vegas while visiting? Are you taking the motorhome on this trip? I hope some year we will be able to go have more fun like that. Let us hear from you as soon as you have a computer available. Belle, sounds like you did the right thing by talking with the dad and telling him like it is. I think you get more respect when your honest and up front with whoever. You Go Girl!!! By the way your donuts are broadies here in MT.LOL Do you say soda or pop? How about the rest of you? My DH always says pop and DD says soda. I think DS says beer.LOL Cuz I'm not sure he doesn't use both when refering to that drink. Must be hard to have so many neighbors now. Did you subdivide or was it others? We still own the 100 acres by us for this reason. Don't know what will happen if the other 5 siblings ever want to sell at once. But we're prepared if it's only 2 or 3 who want out. Karen, my thought is that I don't think the pots are too big for the cuttings. But I suppose I will really find out when I repot. I do have smaller containers available so I will do so if the root mass is small. I am not sure about adding 50% perlite. I assume you mean adding 50% perlite to a bagged mix? I have some tropical plant soil, but I don't think adding the perlite to it would make a substantial difference (according to tapla's container media information). Paul, the frequent watering of the gritty mix could be a challenge for me. I will weigh your suggestion carefully---that is, that the 511 may be a more desirable houseplant media. I don't remember the last time I repotted. I guess it certainly can use a repot even if the plant isn't root bound. I never considered bringing this plant outdoors for the summer. I will consider doing that. I won't be taking cuttings this year. I was talking about the cuttings (pictured above) that I had cut before. I actually found a note I stuck in the pot. It said I repotted those two cuttings February 2017! Hard to believe. That would mean I had taken the cutting in the summer of 2016. I would have used pure perlite to root it, and in February 2017 I planted it into regular tropical soil media. I believe I added extra perlite to the mix (maybe 20%). But as Al (tapla) has said----which I didn't know then---is that would make no difference to the drainage properties of this media. So my plan is to take one cutting, clean off the potting media and plant it into gritty mix. I've just got to try at least one or two plants with this media and see if I like the results and can keep up with the watering. I can make some 511 and repot the other one into that. I know it isn't the best time to repot so I am not sure what the results of the repotting will be.

To JellyToast: Yes, we insisted on having late fees built into the contract. I need to determine when Substantial Completion occurred, because that is when the late fees end. Maybe we haven't reached Substantial Completion yet since bathrooms are not completed. ALSO to ALL: The wood floors throughout the home were not stained in the proper finish or Any finish. I had a wood floor pro visit and he agreed.. After insisting and lying, the GC finally confessed, and all floors had to be screened and stained. This was two months after moving in. All furniture had to be moved and we had to move out for a week. Substantial Completion wasn't done at that point in my viewpoint. He lied here in a Very big way.

Planted palm trees in big concrete planters by the pool today. Looks like a hurricane out there with the tropical flair.

Given that y'all have so much severe weather up there, your hurricane flair sounds quite stylish. The flair without the storm surge!

I hope the storms today, tomorrow and Monday aren't too hard on the palm trees.

I was SO tempted today to plant the rest of the garden...and I'm glad I didn't. Not going to sacrifice every thing to the Hail. Is this the MOST crazy season we've had in like 10 years or am I just confused?

Mia - hope they "make" it. ReedBaize - if it wipes you out - I've gotta few back-ups. Just HOLLAH! I thought I lost several a few weeks back but guess what? They are coming back out!

DH has gone to his deer lease to do "improvements". They better be good ones cuz I'm just NOT down for this stuff! Like Dawn .... fingers crossed.

Reed, darn it, I sure hope you don't lose your plants yet again. Gardening in Oklahoma can sure test your limits. I have a few extras, too, should it come to that.

Mia, are you going for that tropicalesque look? Are your palms hardy? Sounds like the pool area will be gorgeous!

Paula, I never really finish because I've always putting something into empty spots after early crops come in, but this weekend I've been trying to plug in holes in the big garden caused by the removal of sugar snap pea vines and cauliflower plants that have been harvested. If the hail gets what I planted yesterday and will finish planting today, then I have about 10 flats of tiny summer herbs and flowers coming along in the greenhouse for more replacements. To keep a garden full in OK with our heat and weather, I always have something in flats that I can put into the ground at just about any time. I'm hoping the hail and tornadoes miss us all today, but realistically speaking, it seems likely someone's gardens will get hit. There are years here that it seems the weather is determined to demolish our gardens, especially in April through June.

Susan, I heard from Reed late last night and he said his plants had survived 60 mph winds that hit their area. Hopefully another round of storms didn't hit his family's home and garden after that. One day down, two to go and then everyone can maybe breathe a sigh of relief for at least a few days.

Mia's pool area always looks spectacular. I enjoy seeing what she does with it each summer.

Dawn, we came through last night relatively unscathed. My cover is simple. I used 200 clothes pins to pin my quilts to the top of the trellis and then used garden stakes to stake them down into the earth and keep the quilts taught. The goal is not to stop the hail, if it comes, but to reduce the impact and have it slide down the angled quilts. Somehow it withstood BRUTAL winds last night that managed to knock power out to several thousand residents in Edmond and north OKC but baseball-sized hail is a different story. I've got hail hats on a few tomato plants and some cucumbers in random areas of my yard that weren't under the blanket protection. The only thing I really lost last week was a bunch of corn plants but I have about two dozen replacements in my garage to go out later this week.
