They're so pretty! I haven't seen any orioles here yet. I'm afraid to put out oranges or jelly to attract them. They crashed into my windows a few times last year. I need to find some window decals that don't have Santa or pumpkins on them.

Christie, it didnt look the best, but one year when I couldnt find decals, I cut out the shape of a flying hawk from black construction paper, and taped it to the outside of my big windows. I have a good roof overhang, and it lasted all summer.

Aw, that's cute. Great idea for an oriole feeder. I just had my first pair ever of orioles hanging out in one of my trees for the weekend and I so wanted to put something out for them, but couldn't think of anything. The McGyver in me just couldn't kick in :(

Hi all, Just wanted to add that we had a catbird last summer who practically became our mascot. He was here every day, would let me walk right past him and didn't move, we made eye contact and he just watched me walk by. So funny! He spent his time on a fruit and jelly feeder I got, with a roof over it and a cup that drops in the floor of the feeder and a spike for fruit on either side, which I used for orange slices. It is a great feeder, well worth the money. I put an oriole feeder out last summer and only hummingbirds visited it. I only put nectar in it, no fruit, so thanks to reading all your posts I will know to put fruit on that this summer too.

i have had 4 different hummingbirds show up this week but they have not stayed around. Cold and windy most of the week. the oriole has been back today again. and a couple of grosbeaks have been around today, But if it were me i would go somewhere warm till this cold spell is over

Way to go Rachel! I don't always post but ALWAYS read & enjoy your posts. I haven't had any takers at my Oriole feeder but have seen both the Baltimore & Orchard this season. Yesterday I saw my FOS Indigo bunting-they are such beauties! Another first was the sighting of the Blue-grey gnatcatcher nest. I was so excited but when I returned the very next day to show someone I couldn't find it-the leaves had come out just enough & plus it was very high up. Very few warblers for me yet this season but I'm still hopeful. Keep up the lovely photos & stories. I look forward to each & every one. Susan

I'll try that Christie if I can find a pattern. I still have Christmas gel sticky things because I hate to hear the thuds. I am putting jelly out now. I forgot that they eat that; I still have jars from last year unopened.
