first oriole of this year

an adult male bullocks oriole just showed up today.

was not expecting to see anything today as its windy

and chilly and snowing in the mountains nearby

I live in Kansas. Our Orioles always have come to us the same time the hummingbirds come. But this year they still have not arrived. Our hummingbird scouts came in on Monday. Has anyone else had this problem?

i have had 4 different hummingbirds show up this week but they have not stayed around. Cold and windy most of the week. the oriole has been back today again. and a couple of grosbeaks have been around today, But if it were me i would go somewhere warm till this cold spell is over

My neighbor saw one Saturday, May 1st. Right on schedule according to bird watchers in our area. We have big mulberry trees in our backyard and the orioles stay all summer. DH bought me an oriole feeder that has two pegs for orange halves and a cup in the center for grape jelly. I have a feeder for sugar water - keeps them from banging the hummingbird feeders around. I also put orange halves on nails on the top of our fence posts. Love to listen to them sing! Cricket

OITGAD, maybe I can help you with the insertion of pictures. At least I'll try. First you have to upload your pictures to a host site like photobucket or picturetrail. It's really easy to do and when you get them uploaded, photobucket is the easiest, look at your picture and below it will be 3 lines of text. The middle one is the url. Highlight the URL and right click and copy. Come back to the forum and when you have your message typed just right click and paste the URL into the photo. *This is with Photobucket*. If you choose to use another web host then after you upload your picture you will have to right click on the picture and then click properties, copy the URL and then go back to your message and type [img src=this is where you right click and put your URL] where I have put the [ and ] you will need to change those to and that's it. Hit preview and submit. There is a test forum for pictures that you may want to try it in before you use the regular forum and people there who will help you to tell you what you're doing wrong if you have a problem. Thanks everyone, sorry for the late response. I have been out of wi-fi range for a few days. Ah!! Warm fuzzies n bunnies. Woohooman, I had most of my peppers started pretty early, main issue was the learning curve, I replanted some due to lack of sun and some I planted in inadequate soil others were just late additions in the name of learning, now I know what areas get ample sun and have a good idea of what soils to use. Growing em is as addictive as eating them, maybe not the best for my OCD ;-) dj

Orioles gone for the year?

i have 5 to 6 pairs of Bullocks orioles nest around me every year. and they have anywhere from 3 to 5 babys for each pair. towards the end of July the males started leaving and are all gone. over the last 3 weeks i had anywhere from 5 adults females and about 20 fedglings coming and going from the necter feeders and the jelly dishes from sunup to sundown. but this week the numbers are going down each day. today i only had a group of four in and out. Mine are usually all gone by the first of Sept. but in late april the males start coming back and by mid may the females.

the second male oriole showed up this morning and went straight to the orange half. he is slightly smallers than the first and the white stripes on his wings a bit different.

That is a gorgeous bird! Haven't seen a hummer or an oriole yet this year.

the first female oriole was here just after daylight.
did not get a picture of her yet. but really look forward to the orioles they are my favorite birds here. so far two males and the one female. last year had 3 pairs nest and a dozen young fledged.

the second female bullocks oriole showed up this morning and the two males are frantic and showing off for her.Should be at least two more coming and they should be nesting by mid may or slightly later
