Barefoot in the Park--A Fun Time Had By All!

I was so thrilled to get to meet a lot of you at Will Rogers Park today! I had a hoot of a time, ate lots of GREAT food, and came home with tons of plants and a door prize to boot (thank you Plantermum).

Lynn - you're so energetic you make me feel like a slug! Bizydiggin (is it Trish?) - had an absolute blast talkin' to you. We must get together with Gypsichic for a day in the garden. We laughed so much over the silliest things, huh?

I don't recall ever having had such a good time with folks who have so much in common in probably a good 20 years or so! I know, pretty sad, huh, but hey, it made me enjoy it all the more!

I could barely walk by the time I got home. Cricket - hope you're doin' okay! Bless your heart. And you, too, Mrs. Plantermum.

I think we should definitely do a fall, cooler weather swap, when we can roast marshmallows, hot dogs, and have some more of that gooooooooood chili.

Gypsichic has promised to give us her recipe for the tasty salsa or pico de gallo she made with mangos! Mmmmmmmmmm was it ever good!

Andria - a salute to your organizational skills, and tell your hubby I wanna hear more rock & roll stories next time! I thoroughly enjoyed talking about the "old days" with him.

Can we do this again next weekend???????

I had a great time too! And what was the name of that Iris you gave me Susan? I knew I'd forget, should have written it down.

Cricket told me she got home fine. It was nice to meet everyone! And don't forget to give us that recipe Trish - it was delicious!

Thanks to everyone who attended. And don't forget to post pictures of your new water feature Zach when you get it in. I bet you are out digging today!

MadPlanter - I live almost dangerously close -- only 5 miles. I've also resisted ordering plants, mainly because I'd rather not pay shipping if I can just go there and get them. Peren - There is a group of Winter Snow growing nearby and I think they're absolutely gorgeous... hope mine will grow up to be as pretty. I've not seen Gold Drop in person, but in pictures it always looks great, and I'm a sucker for the straight-up "orderly" flower scapes! I'm hoping both Gold Drop and Blue Cadet will grow fairly vigorously so I can divide in future seasons and spread them around a bit. I guess I'm giving myself away as somewhat frugal (read - "cheap").

Linda, I will e-mail you. The name of the Iris is 'Sierra Grande'. It is about to bloom, so I will take photos of it. Yours will probably bloom next year. I dug those rhizomes last fall, and left dirt on them all winter until the day of the swap, then washed it off. So, they should be great for next year. It is a beautiful, absolutely humongous flower on them. The biggest iris flower I've ever seen anyway.

I've attached a photo from Dave's Garden, but it doesn't really do justice to the size of the flower head. I had forgotten how ruffly it is. I think you'll be pleased, they are vigorous iris, and the foliage is so neat and clean on them, too.

I had so much fun this weekend!!! Not only did I get to meet so many wonderful people, but you all sent me home with soooo many plants!! Susan I took your advice and just started putting everything in the dirt. DH couldn't believe I could show up with a couple of weeds and come home with so many great plants.

I have a bed in the backyard that I have been having trouble figuring out exactly what I want to put in it.... it's now my "Charity Garden". Every time I'm outside I'll remember the coreopis that I got from Lynn and the balloon flower from Andriea, the sedum and aloe that Terrance gave me, the Iris, Catnip, Fennel, and Cannas that Lynn gave me.... and Terrence I found the perfect location for the Vinca!!! Susan, the Red Leaf Begonia is by the front door, ready to greet everyone that comes to visit!!

I had almost as much fun planting everything that I brought home, as I did visiting with everyone!

My wife and I really enjoyed the swap, too.
Thanks to everyone for the plants and for the organization of this event.
We're working on our waterfall and will post some pictures of the Before and After in the next week or so! :)
