I was just going to post to ask if anyone was busy shopping for Christmas and I noticed there is a forum on GW that is called Holidays in case anyone was looking for some Christmas talk. [g]

Summer....you have two ways of easily finding it! Look in the categories section under the exchanges and trades category. You will see Round Robin Exchange there. OR, simply scroll down to the alphabetical listings and find it under "R".....for Round Robin. Brody, that's how this forum has always been listed. :-)

I totally agree, remy. On-topic posts make a forum better. It occurred to me, though, that folks who want to discuss their plant in conjunction with ID'ing it tend to post here vs. NTP. That's understandable since it's nearly impossible to do on NTP. Considering there are no moderators, I think most forums work well. marquest, I've pretty much dismissed the container forum as useless also because of the same reasons. There is a soil forum, and a veg forum. I've been growing stuff in containers for about 40 years and have never mixed soil via prescribed formula, and don't find it a bit interesting. The folks whining about not being able to find some of the components are excruciatingly irritating to me. It's all dirt to me and the stuff in the yard is fine with me and my plants. Not to mention that I think perlite, vermiculite, and peat are terrible things to put in pots. But since I seem to be a small minority, I take the onus upon myself to just avoid it. If that's what most folks want to discuss there, I guess it's the right thing to do and the right place to do it. In any case, I am glad that so many more people even have an interest in edibles, and nature in general.

Ghost of Thunder Road: the shots I think you are referring to were taken at dusk, so those white edges were very pronounced. After a day in the sun it was washed out a bit, but that actually made it look better. BTW it passes the white edges and frosted look on to its kids. I avoided an argument by not giving my DH 1 of his gifts, how about that? We had always gone to Florida for about 6 weeks in the winter but DH feels, with having our cats, no one can take care of them like he can, and hasn't gone with me the last couple of years. We have a neighbor and family that live real close and have always taken over in an emergency...Well, I booked my flights and I also booked a flight for DH to come down for 9 days..On Christmas, we were all unwrapping gifts and I said, Dad has 1 more and he said, I've already gotten so many, keep it for my birthday, which is in Feb., right before his scheduled trip...He'll be upset, but I'll already be gone so I don't care...He loves Florida and I know he'll enjoy it....So that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

No, no, no, no ...... It is not Christmas yet ..... it is too early ...., I still have Halloween candy, and Thanksgiving leftovers .... the Knockout roses are still blooming (although sparsely) .... there is no snow .... the lawn grass is still green .... my warm boots are still in the closet .... I refuse to put Christmas lights out yet ...

I don't want to hear Christmas songs and I don't want to talk Christmas yet.

LOL...sorry Claire, at our house, it is 'time'. I don't want to hear it before Thanksgiving and especially not before Halloween, but as soon as the last of the Thanksgiving Dishes are clean, it is time to start if I am going to finish it all before Christmas. [g]

I am feeling very much on track this year which is very, very,unusual. No one wanted anything major, so we didn't race out to the stores Friday morning. I just started making my list of what to get for everyone on Friday and I casually looked at the ads in this mornings paper, but I decided to clean out the bedroom closet today, instead of shopping. I couldn't walk into it anymore, so it was time. We just packed up the last of it to go to Goodwill and now there is plenty of room to stash the Christmas presents waiting to get wrapped. [g]

Still not ready to hear Christmas music though...I'm with you on that Claire!

.... not to sound like a hypocrite, but I've finished most of my Christmas shopping (stuff for little kids) already.... But I refuse to wrap anything yet!

Now Claire...that is just not fair! lol No wonder you are lally gagging around! I have tried in the past to get shopping done earlier but it hasn't worked out for me. I don't have any small children on my list this year. Which is a shame because they are the easiest and most fun to buy for.

We have been known to have to stay up pretty late on Christmas Eve to get all the wrapping done. It is sort of fun to do it on Christmas Eve if you don't have too much to do.

Shopping for little kids is definitely easiest and most fun - I just go to a favorite toy store, check what I'd like to have myself, and see if the age is appropriate.

Two kids are teenagers, for these I ask for direction from the mother, then go online and try to find something I'd like if I was their age with their interests.

I have to get these done early because everything for kids is mailed to faraway places, some far overseas.

I was raised on the tradition of putting the Christmas tree up on Christmas Eve and leaving it up until Epiphany. I still do that for the tree (which is now an ornament tree), but I recognize the neighborhood penchant for outdoor lights in early December.

SILLY ME! I looked for a holiday gardening forum. Lol. I did not know exactly what to expect, but I was excited about it!

The day after Thanksgiving is nicknamed Black Friday, for holiday shopping. I see lots of ads for Christmas shopping before that now! This year it was the fashion to open the stores up at 3 or 4 am to start the day!
