Native Evergreen Screen

Hello All,

I'm in need of a good screening hedge or border.

I would describe the site as:

* Near the back edge of my property about 100 feet from the house

* In a transition area to a native woodland

* Understory to two mature oaks about 60 feet apart

* South facing, getting a good deal of sun throughout the day

But the factor most dominating my thought process is the moisture. Every spring the site gets wet. In fact, my neighboors lawn, on the other side, sometimes floods for 2 or three weeks. My side doesn't flood however the screen will be close to the water and have to tollerate wet soil from time to time.

My first preference is to go with natives, so I'm considerig Tsuga canadensis first for it's size and growth rate and Chamaecyparis thyoides for it's water tollerance but since it's a slower grower and has a more narrow habbit, it's not really an ideal choice.

Any ideas, suggestions or comments on Tsuga canadensis or Chamaecyparis thyoides would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Marc
