How do you tell Trillium ovatum from Trillium grandiflorum?

I bought a few Trillium ovatum from a native plant nursery last fall. They also had some other kinds of trillium. One was labelled Trillium ovatum, but the leaf looked slightly different, but the owner assured me it was T. ovatum, and said it just looked different because it was starting to fade.

This spring when they started pushing up, I noticed another difference. Most of the trilliums, including ones I got at a plant salvage, were pushing up their new growth with the leaf tips first, in curls like a hosta. The one I had questioned was different. It was coming up stem-first with its head bent like this:

Was the different one a Trillium grandiflorum? It looked very similar otherwise, though it was bigger. Is there a good way to tell T. ovatum from other trilliums?

Thank you!
