southern NH vs. northern MA

I am going to help out friends in Goffstown NH redo their foundation plantings. Technically, we are both in Zone 5A, but yet she is still one hour north of me, so it seems like it should be colder there. I think I'm in one of those cold valley pockets though, so that might even us out.

Any borderline plants that come to mind to be wary of?

I haven't yet given the plant list a lot of thought, but I did think of Daphne Carol Mckie as a possibility. The siting is similar to mine and mine do very well. However, I know Carol can be finicky for some. Is that a zonal thing? I think I remember it was a drainage thing.

I hope to keep it simple. They are not that into gardening, so basically low maintenance is best. I was thinking of globe blue spruces and other conifer texture things. We think it gets sun til around 2. She is going to check for sure.
