Since my garden is new, with most of the plants and shrubs planted or transplanted last year, everything is really slow, even for a coastal garden.

I'm so jealous! My garden is so behind everyone elses. Humpf.

Irises!! Boy, they seem extra early this year. I swear they don't bloom till late May!

Just came in from a walk with grandson...we've got the last of the crocus, hellebores (niger, purpurescens and orientalis!), snowdrops, squill, muscari, daffodils, epimediums, tarda tulips, parrot tulips, lamium, violets, chinese and native bloodroots, pulmonarias, trout lillies, ground phlox, hyacinths, myrtle, bergenias, tiny irises, red and white trilliums, and wood poppies. How I love spring!!! My grandson is 2 1/2 and he HAS to go for a walk to look at flowers every time he comes to visit grammy.

Here's a mystery flower for you! These were a real surprise to me, but that's the only hint I'm giving. If I'd expected them, I would not have sited the mystery ... item ... in the weedy back corner of the garden.

Need to add my ajuga and azalea - and buttercups! I know a lot of people don't like these, and think of them as weeds, but I love these. My "lawn" is nothing to speak of anyway, so the drifts of buttercups makes it so pretty to look out over the yard. I don't know if the neighbors agree...

Not much. Mostly dandelions! But I do have rock cress & aubrieta; a pretty blue/purple weed that looks sort of like ajuga but the leaves are different, sand cherry, and viola King Henry still hanging in.

My favorite polemonium - blue, with a grape soda scent - is budding.

I'm puzzled by my daffs, which have sent up foliage, but no buds. Hmmm.

Rhodies aren't blooming either, & that seems late to me.

Weld or woad, I'm not sure which, that I wintersowed last year, is about to bloom in the herb garden.

I hope for a more interesting report next week!
