Need Help Growing Camellias in Oklahoma

Annie

Does anyone on here successfully grow Camellias and get them to bloom?

I have never grown Camellias before. I have two very nice plants that I got in Houston last year. They have large, dark green leaves with tall, woody stems. (I dug them up in a swamp behind my son's house). They are in 3-gallon plastic containers. I have them in my greenhouse to overwinter until I learn how to grow them here in Oklahoma.

The taller one appears to be making bloom buds.

I know in the southern states they bloom in the fall thru December and into early January. They like the cool temps, and can withstand frosts, but are they hardy enough to be planted out in the garden here in Central Okie (zone 6b)? I know they like moist, acid soil, but what do I need to do to get them to bloom, and when do they bloom here?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.
