I stopped by Pondscapes in Bourne last weekend, but could not get to the plants - I'm anxious (in the sense of nervous!) because I'm not even sure they are going to re-open or that the original, knowledgeable owner is still there.

Can't wait for Flower Garden Nursery in Falmouth - they stock temperennials that I must have, like datura, cardoon, castor bean, and tender salvias. It's one of those "shop early and often" places with not a lot of any one thing but lots of unusual and interesting small plants.

Haven't been to Avent Gardens for awhile - last time I drove up there they hadn't opened yet. That was a couple of years ago - this year I"ll call ahead.

I wonder if Haskell's is going to be open this year - a friend drove by last spring and it was closed, with not indication of why it was closed or when they'd re-open.

Most of the garden centers and nurseries I go to are open year round. I guess except Seawrights and Blanchette Gardens in Carlisle which open shortly. But I can't wait for the nurseries to start stocking plants, etc. I know it is a little early for this though!

So I had posted in the New England Flower show a link to an article about Lexington Gardens being sold to a developer. I am very sad about this as they have the best plants and supplies etc. and it is sad to see another place I like to shop for plants go out of business. For those in the area it is supposed to be open this season so we will see.

Two years ago we had a very long post in which people listed all there favorite spots. If you search the New England forum just typing in "favorite", it comes right up. This might be of interest to you, although you would have to check for updated status before going out of your way to visit. I printed out a version that I took in my car when out on road trips.

I pass a little place in Somerville daily, and this week they were setting up the nursery tables that have been stacked up all winter. The pansies won't be too far behind!

I am also sad to hear about Lexington Gardens; I can remember going there with my grandparents and being pulled in those little red wagons. I still shop there and I will miss it.

I think the censors have been here, I could swear I saw more comments on this post yesterday...did Marie get sent to Disney???

I recently discovered this garden centers web-site and have been reading all through it. It looks like I will be spending a lot of my free time here! So many plants - such a short growing season. I see that they won an award of one of the best 100 garden centers in th US too.

I can't wait!

Thanks for that garden site. I bookmarked it. I probably went by this place numerous times when on 3A and never stopped. Has it been there long??? Formerly worked at Sanders Assoc. years ago.and traveled 3A frequently though not much now. There is a greenhouse on Island Pond Rd. in Derry, NH called Chakarian's that had great prices and should be opening the first of spring. Try to get there when the perennials are on sale for $.99/ea. Hey Grow Now, I happen to live not far from your link. CountryBrook Farms In Hudson, NH. Family type place but not little anymore. Mid spring I love to just walk into the Nursery behind the barn and see the swaths of blooming shrubs and trees. I can't even pronounce half the names but, they are beautiful, none the less. Next favorite is the spring smell of mulch and Best of all the Creamery!!!

Ice cream after a long walk looking at all the varieties; the BEST.

I vote this as a favorite too!

I just found out that Countrybrook Farms is open now!

I'm waiting for for my neighbor to free up her schedule & we'll be going over there this weekend! All my new neighbors have all been telling me good things about this place so I'm very much looking forward to it.

Can anyone recommend Logees in Danielson, CT. Just found them this winter online and it looks reallyyyy interesting....

I get the Logee's mail order catalog - never checked out the website before. Thank you. Imagine how fabulous it must be to visit there! CT is too far for me though.

We did a field trip to Logees a couple of years ago - about 20 of the old "regulars" from this forum met up there, in very early spring. We had a behind the scenes tour, and it was wonderful.

That was a great event, topped off with lunch at the Vanilla Bean - I think that's the name of the place, not too far from Logees. A few of those folks are still here ... not many, though.

At long last I got the chance to go over to the Garden Center that all my neighbors have been talking about. IÂm even more keyed up to landscape my new yard now that IÂve been there. The place is much bigger than it looks like in the pictures on their website. My neighbor (Kim) went with me. She was giving me a mini tour of what will be in what areas. Along came a very friendly employee, we chatted and she thoughtfully offered me a tour and ride in a golf-cart like machine. She was able to drive me around the enormous front and back yard. They are starting to get a lot of trees and shrubs in already and I was very thoroughly impressed by all that I saw. She answered a lot of my questions and made suggestions while we chatted and drove along. IÂve already looked up the things that she suggested and know what IÂll be putting in some areas, IÂm going to bring pictures of my yard next time I go there, I can use all the advise I can get.

It took my breath away when I stepped inside the door! It is in this enormous very old barn that has two floors and so many country-style, vintage and one of-a-kind itemÂs. I donÂt even know how long we were in there, we just completely lost track of time during all the ooooing and aaaugghhhhing (and buying). LOL
No more box store stuff for my new house. IÂll be going back to Countrybrook Farms for more!

Grow now, I was there Sat with my brother buying trees for his new house. It's a long trip for me but always worth the time spent to get to southern part of the state to see so much selection and see that there are still employees that know what they are talking about. It is the best garden center in the state as far as I'm concerned. How is your landscape planning going for you?
