How early do you start cleaning up the garden?

Hello :-)

Is it spring yet? [g] I hear there is a snow storm predicted for tomorrow, but not much accumulation. I toured my yard yesterday and not much going on out there yet. Lots of fallen branches, frozen ground still in the shady parts. I see a few tips of daffodil foliage coming up if I look hard but not even a crocus. New foliage on a Hellebore poking up, that's it.

Out of curiosity, I looked back at the March photos from last year and the year before. On the 16th of March last year, I have photos of a snow storm and then no photos again until April 19th. On that day there were crocus photos and some blooming pulmonaria. In 2006 I had photos of crocus on March 27th.

Back to my question..[g]...I was tempted to start cutting back dead foliage on the perennials. When is the earliest you cut things back? I don't want to spur new growth and then get hit with a late frost, but I did notice some growth already starting for some plants.

Have you all finished your pruning?
