Pics of my Organic veggie garden,,AND my chickens and Dog.
Comments (8)Hi there,,well, the only time I have to worry about anything getting my chickens is at night, but they are closed up in there coops very securely so nothing can get in. I have 3 dogs and 2 big cats. None of them bother the chickens at all. It depends on your pets. Mine have been around them for about 6 or 7 years. You can also keep them penned up around their coop if you don't want them to free range. I do not feed them organically anymore due to the high prices of the feed. I buy regular chicken feed but I also give them watermelon, yogurt, peas, corn, black sunflower seeds, berries, scraps from the kitchen, etc. My chickens stay in the yard, they don't wander off into the woods or anything. They even stay out of the road. They dont travel like Guinea hens do. Guinea hens will travel up to 1/4 mile away from home. I lost all 10 of mine in one season. If you go on the "farmlife" forum, there are alot of people over there who own chickens and have good ideas....See MoreMy newest piece of structure for the garden...
Comments (31)Rob, you sound like such a nice person and how nice of you to even want to help. That is sufficient. You have quite a full plate of your own. Oh, I'm right in the center of eastern Iowa on the Mississippi, quite a ways from you, would tell most people on this forum where but archives and privacy, etc. It's gratifying to see that such beautiful roses can be grown in WI plus you are choosing ones that work best in your climate. I jotted down what you said and am happy that beetles are not such a problem for you. I'm wondering if there is something about my soil or the way I'm doing things. I will keep trying to make healthier growing conditions, not in a giant leap but in small steps, and get a better ecological balance going here....See MoreWell, I did return my S&S but got instead (pics)...
Comments (7)Uh Oh - I think what I thought I bought from Lowes was June. Now that I see your GE I think that's my June. It didn't have a tag. That's why everyone's June pictures seem to have a wider blue border. I feel dumb and I ordered a GE that's not as big and is in another area of my garden. Thought they were similar but that GE isn't very big. I've never seen either in person. My one from Lowes is growing nicely for me though. Does Lowes carry GE? I don't have one around here. Now I guess I NEED June. How am I going to smuggle another mail-order plant into my garden without my husband knowing? I went from 5 varieties to 50 this year already....See MoreMy newest additions to my plumeria collection.
Comments (4)Jackie is a really nice bloom, but you'll need heat to drive the shape. Elsie bloomed late for me, so I put it in the GH to finish. from my notes... Elsie 3" rounded flowers of dark pink with lighter pink to white area. Petals round, heavily overlapping. Leaves: beautiful emerald green, broad oval. Compact growth habit. During development we called it the âÂÂpainted pinkâÂÂ, as when flowers are at their pink it looks like the colors were painted on. 3-4â flowers in good clusters. Excellent form and habit. Growth habit: semi-compact Scent: medium floral, Nice thick substance, fat buds and sturdy inflo stems. Stunning pink and white swirl strong sweet fragrance. Seedling of Penang Peach produces thick clusters of rounded flowers of dark pink, lighter pink and white, with a somewhat swirling effect. The tree is thick-branched, yet compact like her seed parent. The leaves even have the little ''hook' on the tip like Penang Peach. The fragrance is nicely sweet. This beauty was hybridized in Thailand and released in 2007. Good mixed of pink on the flowers, orange center, when the buds start to open, the color very intense pink then turn into nice pink when fully open, pink band on the back of petals. Love the strong bands of red and pink in the petals. Recommended. 3" Dark pink with lighter pink and white areas. Floral scent and heavy strong bloomer. Very thick leaves. A new compact variety of 3" overlapped flowers of red, dark pink and white. Penang Peach seedling. Very strong sweet fruity perfume. Non stop bloomer..super nice colors. Fairly mild floral scent. Retains strong pink color after picking. good growth habit, where as Daisy is not so compact and will get tips that seal over. About 3", good bloomer on shorter tips. Jackie JJ: slow-growing and compact in nature, with very thick wood, and stunning, temple-shaped flowers that will vary in shape and even color with the season. Even its foliage is highly unique; wavy and corrugated. The flower (up to 4") is sort of a chameleon, varies in shape and color intensity by the season, but there's no mistaking the dense, wavy foliage. A slow grower with thick wood - this is one of a kind. Growth habit:: compact Scent:: light floral, fruity Peach scent..not super strong..but nice. Changes from one color to other color, start out with peachy blush on white petal then turn into yellow so you get multi-color in one bundle of flowers, nice textures, peachy red on the back of the petals. very heavy bloomer. Heat lover. one the the thickest branches I've seen ..blooms in nice big clusters and gets this beautiful pagoda shape blooms. Does require a little bit of heat to take this shape..but if your in a area that get in the 90's in the summer you should have no problem..
