Hey Laura, Can We Swap Shadehouse Handymen?

(Just kidding.) The d Irishman isn't up for swap. He puts the fun in dysfunction every day. (I'm not complaining, I'm celebrating, just so you know.)

I was skeptical about the racks he recycled, but I' love 'em!

That hideous pink and red thing is a gargoyle lawn ornament, a nice present compared to the waffle iron present received before the gargoyle. It gets repainted by my resident artiste' occasionally. It is truly hideous, and I cannot lie, I love it! The can crusher (under the dendrobium) lost its appeal when our fair city provided really big (wheeled) bins for recycling. There's an african violet residing on top of it.

Everybody's happy, A work in progress... (You see the four coats of water seal on the lattice, right?) I do belive it must have been boring to roll Thompson's on for my dear Irishman. Ah well, live, love, laugh, dance, grow plants, be happy.

Hey Marilyn-I see your work in progress! Your story of the gargoyle and the waffle iron made me think of the youtube video my DH sent me. The husband gave his wife a vacuum cleaner as a gift and she took him to the dog house. It's pretty funny. Let me know if you'd like to see it and i'll forward.
It must be love if your Irishman is willing to put 4 coats of waterseal on lattice! hehe
Maybe I should share my butterfly hatchery that I built. It works but it is higher on one corner. When I thought of making a lean-to or another simply type of shade house I think of the butterfly thing and .... maybe NOT.
My handyman has got to laugh when he sees my projects.
I see all your baby hoyas...they can get quite large! One day you will all of a sudden have BIG hoyas growing all over the place especially since you have them outside.

Your shadehouse is looking good!! We might need a full shot of that "gargoyle" lawn ornament, LOL...I have to agree with Laura, Love is in the air (4 coats of water
seal)!! Great going!

Hoyas look great and so does the orchids. I can see that thing filling up very fast with Hoyas and other plants, keep us posted!

Ricky, I have a small red and a small pink Etilator (sp?) that I can divide for you. So far I have you down for those, some broms, and a michelia champaca. I still have american beautyberrys (see GardenPa's thread to see how pretty these are in bloom!), michealia champaca (orange flower) seedlings, miscellaneous hoyas (mostly carnosa or the green sports of KP or KQ), plumerias (see pictures), plumeria pudica, and miscellaneous coleus & perilla (perilla is a great subsitute for coleus for hot sunny areas with little water), Hedychium Sherry Baby (I think I got this from Evelyn last swap? It's now my favorite!), Hedychium Flavum, misc. heliconias, frosty pink brugs, etc. I've posted a link to some pictures below. Does anyone have any cuttings of the following to share? Jasmines, sweet almond verbana (aloysia virgata), Sweet olive (osmanthus fragans), aglaia odorata, bridal veil, fiddlewood, or small fragrant hedychiums? Fragrance is my new thing, lol. Hey everyone, I will not be able to come to the swap this weekend. I just got back from the vet and my doggie is not doing so well...apparently her spine is degenerating....anyway I can't leave her alone all day. Hi, lauramg8 I'm looking for mostly shade plants. I need to fill an area between my house and driveway. It is fairly steep and shaded by my neighbor's house and a very large oak. The shrubs and bushes that are there now are not doing well. They are leggy and have fungi growing on them. Over all, they just don't look healthy. There is no ground cover so every time it rains some soil is washing down onto the driveway. The roots on a couple of the dogwoods are more visible now than a couple of years ago. I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for since I am new to gardening. I do know that I would like to plant things for the wildlife e.g. food for butterflies, bees, and birds. -Tina

Ok a couple new request from left overs.... I just wanted to give everyone else a chance at them first because I have the varigated ones but no babies yet. spider plants 3 1 extra paw paw Amy ferns - 2 jade plant 2 Cindy - Poinsetta Auntyara 1 creeping forgetme nots 2 pink spirea (if you have an extra you didn't give a number so I am not sure) BTW - I am so excited about your aster. I love them and have been wanting them for a while! OK everyone I will be updating the site again with this mornings request. We will be shipping in just another week and I am sooo excited! Everyone should start making their lables for the plants. LABELING TIP - you should use something that can go straight in the ground so that when everyone recieved their box they can go straigt to planting. So many did this in the last swap and it made it so much easier. I will be doing this this time also for all of you. I saw old milk cartons, yogart containers, old plant lables etc.. (cut into strips) Plastic is best for this with a paint pen so it last longer (until everyone can 'officially' lable them all) Me and my daugter paint rocks with the name of the plant on the underside and we put them where ever the plant is. The know better than to move them. hehehe. A lot of the ones that wrote on paper/tape a lot of them got smeared and you couldn't read them because of the moisure. Tammy:-) Anyone else have any tips?? I have been doing a ton of swaps but am still learning things as I go.

Laura, (snicker), thanks so much. I would absolutely love the you-tube link you mentioned...send it to msmmetz@aol, or... post it on this thread. (I'm sure others would enjoy it too.)

And yes, please do post a picture of the butterfly hatchery. I've had these random thoughts of adding bat and bee houses lately! A butterfly hatchery sounds much more appealing, and undoubtedly much safer.

You noticed my "thing" for hoyas, a new addiction started last summer, right around the time I joined the forum. I went a wee bit crazy, but I'm clamping down now, I swear.

Lisa, I do indeed need to share a picture of the gargoyle, and photos of Coconut Art from the resident artiste'. (Assuming you noted "Oh No! Mr. Bill" coconut art at the top of the shade house.) That's just the tip of the iceberg.

The shadehouse isn't hurricane worthy (yet). (Ever?) Ah, we'll get around to it, we always have time, right?

(You asked for it...ha ha ha!) Notice it has a spitter option if we ever get around to adding a water feature and it isn't too clogged with layers of paint. I can't remember how many colors he's been.

Now after subjecting you to those, here's what my artist friend made me for my birthday, her interpretation of my Hoya publicalyx pink silver. (Marie is aware of my hoya affliction.)

Thank you, Laura for your kind comments about that Hoya window. Yes, yes it is stunning. (Not that d Irishman's art contributions aren't equally as wonderful, lol.)

I LOVED the link. Thanks for posting.

P.S. Your cuttings from Ricky's swap are under the shade house too. There is a slight, no probable possibility that I inserted some (most?) of the cuttings, ugg, err, UPSIDE DOWN! The nodes, the leaf direction, it was all so confusing and, oh never mind.

I'm glad you liked Marie's Hoya window. She's been a best bud since jr. high. (Long time.)
