Toads and slugs

There must be something very toxic in my neighborhood.

I have no worms...none! I can dig a hole to china and no worms. Last night I dug up 3 huge hosta....no worms. I use alfalfa, blood meal, bonmeal and compost...I mulch with shredded pine bark and the chopped up wood from tree trimming I have had done. I don't spray fungicides nor insecticides, but I do do selective Round up spraying. I have a "chicken waterer" pan in the garden that always has water in it and neighbors have ponds/water features.

I used to have toads...there used to be one huge guy that would "plop" into the plant saucer I use as a bird and critter water in the garden by the deck....but no more. During the years when I had toads, I put a copuple of flower pot halves in the garden as a "toad hollow".

I have lots of grackles and robins and cardinals, orioles etc ewtc.....and slugs.

Why no toads and what can I do to fix the situation? And why no worms? And what are the robins eating out of my lawn?
