My situation is the reverse:
I wish I could that say gardening was growing on my female counterpart. She appreciates nature abstractly, but has an attitude that falls somewhere between fear and disgust when it comes to actually being in it.

I've always had a green thumb, and working with plants has more or less always been a solitary pursuit for me... *sigh*
I need me a woman to garden with! lol :)

Ill never forget my hubby coming home at lunch time and I was elbow deep in the worm bin . He had on his starched white shirt and tie and happily he said "I thought Id come home from work and take you to lunch.

Goldenpond, the mental picture I got from your description had me laughing! I could just imagine the face that your hubby must have made at the sight of you standing there with two fist fulls of worms! I think that mental picture alone will keep a smile on my face all day long! lol

LOL mine gags at the sight of the open compost bin and his typical response to my new plant excitement is "*sigh* MORE plants?"
Although he is getting to be quite a good bug squisher on my veggies which is something I don't like to do, so at least he is getting involved somehow!

my other half is very supportive of gardening endeavors at our house. he doesnt have any experience, but we are learning together and since ive been with him, his appreciation has grown. he'll dig holes for me and do the heavy duty stuff since ive been pregnant for 2 years now....

DH doesn't want to have anything to do with working in the yard but he really likes what I've done with it.
When I want to give him a garden tour because some neat things are blooming his response is "I saw the garden last month" hehe! I drag him into the yard anyway with the instructions to "act interested".
I'm happy as a clam working alone in the yard. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a shared interest but then it might be best to be careful what you wish for.

Laura1, I am in the same boat as you. My BF does not like anything having to do with nature, but he will humor me if I want to show him something in the garden. :)

I've probably told these tidbits before, but they are so relevant to this thread:

One time I came home from a weekend out of town and the dear BF asked me "Did you know there's a cantelope at the end of that vine by the deck?" My suspicious response: "Yes, of course I did. I planted it. How do you now know that?" He pulled it up believing that all vines are bad. I made him eat the unripe 'lope with salt.

And then there was the time he became convinced that my excitement over my new composter that had a reservoir to collect compost tea meant that sooner or later I would make him drink something made from garbage.

But he's sweet about digging holes and hauling heavy stuff in from the car, and he really enjoys seeing me enjoy the yard we bought together. (He did think we were just buying it as part of the property that came with a house.)

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Hey, at least he didn't just pull it up and toss it away as a weed, like my ex did. I'll never forget when we were weeding, and I had just planted a small orange jasmine. I looked where he was weeding, and said "Where's the jasmine bush?" Of course, he looked at me with that "What the he!! is a jasmine bush?" look. There is was, pulled up, laying under the pile of weeds.

I replanted it, and you wouldn't believe how beautiful it is now.
