Latest wish list - does it ever stop??

I'm guessing the answer to that is no. So here's what I'm wanting now (which is ridiculous, where's the room??): cagayanensis, curtisii, nummularioides, retusa, sp. Chiang Mai, variegated multiflora. (Strangely, I put this in alphabetical order without meaning to. Very weird.) I have stopped myself numerous times this week from attempting to order most of this list by telling myself to wait for my current ones to get bigger, or until I build the bones of my terrarium. It's working so far, but sheesh. Who knew what treachery was lurking behind a simple tradeoff of African violet plantlets for hoyas?

What are your thoughts on these hoyas? (Minus variegated multiflora, since we've been discussing it lately.) Favorites? Not so much? Just wanting some opinions from those of you growing them. Thanks!

To answer the first question: NO, it never does stop. I've been collecting for about 10 yrs and it never does! As for the second question on comments...I do have all of the wish list species and I guess my favorites are the retusa, chang mai, and the multiflora var. The cagayanensis and curtsii don't do much for me personally, but I would recommend the nummlariodes just for the fact that in the fall it is a prolific bloomer. every Oct, or Nov mine blooms it's head off with tiny cute flowers even in very young plants. I have never gotten my curtsii to bloom even after 10 yrs! I am guessing though that from different growing styles and geographical locations you will get vastly different responses.

Retusa is such an odd looking plant, which is a lot of the appeal for me. Do you find that it grows well? Nummularioides looks like a really cute plant, but it is great to hear that it is also a prolific bloomer. Actually at this stage I would be excited to see any hoya blooms, as I've never experienced this for myself. When I had a hoya long ago, I knew nothing about them and didn't even knew that it could flower. The closest one to potentially blooming is one of my lacunosas. I don't think it's quite there yet. Maybe next year?

Hate to say, but djanes is right. Don't look for the wind to stop until June. I remember a very CALM spring about 12 years ago and then suddenly, near the end of May all heck broke loose. Friends were visiting from Colo. considering moving down here.......HAH! they went home and haven't seen them since. Look at waffle garden plans used by Hopi where plants are put into depressions to avoid having the seedling sawed off by blowing sand. For tomatoes and like growing plants, surround your tomato cages with the white insect barrier or floating row cover cloth. Secure well (I've been known to sew them on) to cage and secure cage well into ground!! Save extra for top to fold over and secure. In addition to keeping wind and sand off plants, by setting cloth into ground and securing the top, you keep off leaf hoppers that transmit curly top virus. When the tomatoes start poking at the top, open the lid. Remove the cloth at your leisure...I've kept it on until fruit began ripening.

I don't need it....nothing....don't need anything more.... BUT....today I went to the $ store because I needed several gift bags....and while I was there...I just had to walk around...and bought 3 glass pinch bowls...I was getting along just fine with custard cups...but... AND I got a new dishwasher last week...but that was because my 22 year old trusty Maytag died. I know better then to buy one of the newer Maytags (the ex CEO was a very good friend and next door neighbor and when he made all those trips to China and Japan, I figured it out!).. Anyhow I got a Jenn Aire....I know they are in the business of down draft vent systems....but it's a hotsy totsy model, likely last years but I made the dealer an offer...prepared to up it....and he said OK. Surprise! But its' not "fun" in the way that a new stock pot would be...I still am trying to figure out the best way to load the thing! Also got 2 new YeehaH stoves for the church...I bucked the people who said why do we need to spend that for stoves.....and I splained why!! Because I cook on them and you don't! I think I need new potholders.....mine are beyond awful...and people give me oven mits and I feel clumsy using them, so I save them for the grill. I Have a fairly nice assortment of Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's day potholders...but I need some simple every day ones that don't have burned corners and the stuffing hanging out. Linda C

Hey John, Good to know !!!! I thought it was a winter hardy one.. along with Wonderful.. Well you saved me again!!! I will see if I can buy another Russian from our Local nursery( that is if they have any in the fall). I did go to the farmer's market to pick up a Persimmon for My friend.... who grow a lot of Indian vegetables and Are getting into growing fruits... I get a lot of Tips for indian veggies from them as they have farms in India. They are the ones who provide me the seed for my veggies :-) The farmer's Market guy has a pomegranate, but is not Russian. Not sure what cultivar it is. He does not know either.. I am guessing Wonderful as that is what seems popular.

I like retusa, it is a "one of a kind" leaf. My retusa grows good. Also my Nummularioides has lots of the red tint to the leaves from being grown in lots of light mine has not bloomed yet. Yep just give lacunosa time, this hoya for me is one of the most blooms, pretty frequent too and smells good.
