why does Florida look so dry?

Hi fellow gardeners,

I garden in western Washington state but will retire soon and we're thinking about buying a couple of acres in central Florida (we could never afford the coast). In searching for property I've been amazed that lot after lot looks just brown and dry. I've checked, and it looks like Florida gets more rain than we do - but the soil looks just dry and sandy.

Is it possible to have a rich lush green garden in central Florida? And what's up with the soil?

thanks for your wisdom and advice,

Buzz
