Salutations oh great Tomato-Man!! Remember me?? hee hee

I also love Dr C's, got 4 seedlings coming up right now. Another fav is very similar to DrC a whiter variety and I can't remember their name, dang it, but Denise Long turned me on to them last year. Delish and firm yellow/white fruits. I also love the profuse Yellow pear. I have some seed from s-i-l called Hughes. These are a large yellow beefsteak. He loved them this year and I got to taste one of the last on the vine last month while in Chicago. Sharp, even tho mealy texture-due to late season. I am trying myself this fall. I'll be happy to share some seeds, Tom. I gotta get my Icicles in the ground, was going to plant today but dang that wind was chilly!!

The same varieties that sometimes are a failure are good some other season.
Also do you mean yellow, cherry size tomatoes? Or medium or large size varieties as well?

I grew in Arizona Lemon Boy and it was a good tomato for the heat, I also grew Taxi and sometimes it was good too.

The recommended yellow variety in the tomato forum is Manyel, I tried 2 different seasons and it was terrible in production.

Galinas is a yellow cherry that is good.

I am growing now some whites that they look yellow this season, one of them is Livingston Golden Queen, you remember you sent me? It is good this season.

And I always grow Yellow Submarines, my neighbors fave. This variety has to be picked before it rains, otherwise it splits.

I found Dr Carolyn very similar with Snow White cherry. That variety also has a tinge of yellow when ripe. And I also grew Ildi,a yellow cherry that produces in clusters. But sometimes the plant gets diseased.

...she admitted, knowing she would have to fight the critters again this season.

I also say Lemon Boy. It's a tasty, medium size tomato with some nematode resistance!

Good to hear from you and that you're still growing. I also have some Dr. C's growing. One of my all time favorites for taste and production.

I grew Snow White and Dr. C the same year and agree they are VERY similar. Ildi did not do well for me.

Sungold is probably the most popular yellow cherry but I don't like it because of the tough skin, prefer Dr. C.

Gold Jubilee (store bought plant) was the only yellow slicer that survived my awful last year season. It produced well, tasted good.

FWIW here are yellow I tried to grow and failed with: Yellow Brandywine, Lillians Yellow, Amish Yellow.

I would include more varieties that I like but Tom said no to gold only yellow :) I think I prefer orange or bicolor.
I tried Lillian's yellow and did not do good for me either and also tried Azoychka, I love the taste but it does not do well in our weather.
And I forgot that I like Peche Jaune, it might not qualified for Tom, is a medium to small variety and peach.

The only ones on the run are the Lemon Boy and the one Denise recommended Golden Jubilee.

Hi - My favorite is YELLOW PEAR, I grow them in big pots and they do well for me, I like that they are just bite-size and low acid, I have some now that set during that last cool-down we had, and expect there will be lots more with this spell of cooler weather... I can get the plants at Lowes also Home Depot on 22 ave., usually......sally

Denise - Is GJ a hybrid or heirloom? If it's an heirloom and you have some seeds I'd like to try it.

Sally - YP is a good producer but IMO not even close to DC in taste.

Hopefully, I'll be trying Lemon Boy, Galina's and Gold Jubilee either as successions this season, or in the spring.

Golden Jubilee is an hybrid but I saved seeds if you want them. Could be interesting. LMK. I got my plant at Lowes or HDepot.

sylvia sent me some of those yellow submarine cherries seeds (really not cherries--kinda pear shaped very small). they are tasty and prolific and very disease resistant. i will add them to my permanent repertoire.

Michael, smaller than a Yellow Pear or about the same? I'm not wild about the Yellow Pear, how would you describe the taste, in comparison?

I am glad that those YS are doing good for you, you can save the seeds and never have to buy those again. :)

If you like those, you will also like the Aliana, it is also small and yellow-orange. It is a tremendous cropper. I had so many last season, that I took a break this time so the family would not get tired of them.

I grew the seedlings this season for the neighbors and one of the chefs, I will get to hear what they think soon.

tom, tomatoes are (aside from lettuce) the only veg that i eat raw. i like raw tomatoes well enough, but i am not someone to ask 'how does it taste' because when it comes to taste, all of them are pretty much so the same to me. it's not that i don't taste differences, it's just, let's face it, they're all pretty good. so, the ys is a little dilute compared to some yellows, like sungold (which is a fine little tomato and a great producer). they're pretty and interesting looking. the skin is not too thick. i like the sweet/sour balance, too. the fact that they're open-pollinated is very attractive to me, since they appear to be very disease resistant. they grow well containers, too. both syl & i grow them in smallish pots. mine is 6' tall and full of fruit.

Nice Silvia. I thought I was done looking at tomatoes since I only have room for 13 plants, but Cathy likes Dr. Carolyn so well that she's asked me to try a few more yellows, thus this post.

Can you sent me back a few Livingston seeds? And, if you have any Aliana I'd like to try it too.... I'm going to try Lemon Boy too.

One of my neighbors is famous for her salads, I gave her husband the YS to grow, and when she invite people over she tells them about the tomatoes and about me.

They come to see the garden and I send them with tomatoes, I can tell you yellow tomatoes are very popular.

I have to grow them together the YS and Aliana to compare flavors. Maybe next season.

The Livingston is a medium size tomato, pale yellow and nice mild flavor.

I am going to save seeds for the first tomato, it is huge and striped inside red and yellow. The third on the picture is the Brandy Boy, the first is almost double in size.

When you have extra tomatoes to give away to your friends, they will be thrilled if you include different colors and sizes.

Your Beefmasters will be highlighted more this way.:)

Thanks Silvia, at first Cathy had no interest in the yellows, but we eat a lot of tomato-cuke-pepper salads, and with the yellow tomatoes and the light green peppers in these salads she was sold, thus the quest for more color!

Thanks to this post I just picked up a Lemon Boy at Home Depot. The fact that it is "low acid" sold me.

I also have a jubilee that I started from seed.

So will report in a few months.
