pirula, Strange to me, in that I zero photos of my kitchen on this computer, and only one kitchen photo on any of my online photo hosting sites. I have so many progress/construction shots of the master bathroom and my daughter's "mousehole bed" bedroom because those were done for magazine photo shoots. The only one I have of my kitchen is a very limited shot, but it does show the end-grain teak butcher block that I made for our island endcap. It's roughly 4' square with a clipped corner, and 5" thick. West Systems epoxy to hold it together and a mineral oil finish. This thing was soooooo heavy. In the background you can see a bit of the remainder of the teak countertops, the countertops are 2" thick and 30" deep. My wife is 5'1", you can see an elevation step in the countertop, it was lowered to suit her. To the left it's a bit lower, it's a run about 12' long that has the sink. The higher elevation is about 6' long, it covers the dishwasher and a few banks of drawers. Design-wise we love the layout, it's always worked well for our family. Construction-wise, this was my first foray into woodworking and cabinetmaking. No disasters, which was a relief!

I forgot to say that I graduated in 1980. I think I paid the couple hundred dollars myself. I was working at the time. One of my best friends who graduated in VA went with her class to Cancun, Mexico. She graduated 2 years after me and her parents paid thousands for her to go! Now kids go to Europe and Aruba. They also have more elborate proms, only a few "rich" kids had limos back when I was in high school. Now everyone gets one. I'm dreading the day when Lauren starts going to proms. I've already told her she'll be wearing the same dress to all of them or we'll be buying them used and cheap. And no limo.

This has been interesting! I used to love surfing around on Gardenweb! I’m not very techy at all but I could do it. Houzz has been confusing a bit and sometimes I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone. It’s exciting to see some of these names from way back! Definitely remember My3dogs, Palimpset, and Magnaverde for sure! Why do they mess with success? I’m not even sure what my user name was back then. Maybe Deborah 1950? A funny story. Several years ago I was at Home Depot researching ranges. I told the guy my 40” Kenmore Elite electric range story about how the oven hadn’t worked for a few years and I’d been told no parts available. (Everyone is now so tired of this story, including me). Anywa, he was on his computer and says, “Here’s somebody else with the same problem!”

Can your plant survive it - yes. Can it be prevented - yes. Reversed - possibly if discovered early enough. For most of us it is only an early season issue and easily corrected. This late in the season your odds of getting unaffected fruit are slim unfortunately regardless of what you do simply because there is so little of your growing season remaining. BER begins to develop very early in the fruit's development, while it is still green and growing. So even tho the symptoms are not apparent, much of the damage has already been done. That is why consistent soil moisture levels is so important early on. It's also why container plants, unless grown in exceptionally large containers, are so much more prone to BER. And lastly, some varieties are more prone to it than others. Better luck next year. Dave
