another daylily bloom today on Pandors's Treasure

The blooms is small. not as big as they was 2 months ago, but, still have a bloom today on it,and its much lighter in color, too,I guess due to the cold weather. Coral fantasy has a bud too, it did have 6 or 8 buds, but, looks like they fell off and just one left today.dont think it will make it to blooms before this next freeze comes in.

Nice. In our climate, we can not overwinter in pots unless they are mulched.

Thanks mantis;I know its a lot colder where you are, but so far I have grown a lot of plants in pots and never mulched any of them.it very seldom gets that cold here.iTs been years since it got down below zero with tons of snow.It was way back in 64 or 65, we had so much snow and below zero temps.I went out this morning and seen this daylily again and thought it was another new bloom today too, until I got closwer and looked at it carefully , then I knew it had just made it through the night very well and looked like a new bloom today, too.

It depends on how you are dividing. Are you dividing them down to 2 fans or 4 fans or what size? I've purchased in the spring which were just bareroot double fans and had them bloom the same year but not to their full potential. I will be dividing some plants this spring and I'm not concerned about how many blooms I get from them this year. I figure it is best to get it done before something else comes up in the fall and I can't get it done again. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Julia

OOPS. Mis spelled the name of this daylily and put a T when it didnt belong there/ Its KECIA. The right way to spell it. RITA: I like the pictures of scapes, too, but,didnt know if to post that picture or not, since I had already posted the lilies before, then I decided oh,I will go for ir anyway.I have a lot of scapes about to open at any time. Oh gosh, where to start!? I just planted Dallas Star this Spring and it has bloomed, but not photo-worthy. In fact, I wondered why I wanted it in the first place, it was so un-impressive. But seeing yours gives me hope for next year! Piano Man was on last year's wish list, but I foolishly passed it up - can't imagine why! It just went back on my list, since your shot is so wonderful! Fancy Buttons is one I've wanted for a long time. Sure love your capture of the bloom. Just planted my Susan Weber this Spring, but looks like she will wait until next year to bloom. Debra. we cut slits on the strips. You can't see them in the picture but the fabric has a yellow stripe every foot. We really don't like that method because the fabric will shred, especially when you pull a weed out. I know Tom Polston uses some sort of drill to cut holes, but he plants in black plastic. Bob has been toying with the idea of burning a hole, but I guess for now we will just cut the slits. That's what Mike and Sandy Holmes do. We used the landscape fabric last season and it does make a great difference. We had one piece blow off during high winds (and there's no putting it back now) and weeds will grow up in the slits, but still it has cut down the weeds tremendously. With all the rain we have had this spring, if we hadn't put down the plastic the weeds would be knee high. The older seedlings can handle that ok, but the babies just get lost. Nancy

Jean, I think you are going for the record! That is amazing, at least to me here in zone 4. I thought I was something special to have one bloom in October...LOL.

Thanks all, for these nice comments.Ain'it amazing?Even I can't get over the shock of having a pretty bloom the very last day ot 2011.I hope these daylilies do as well this spring and summer when its hot outside.I guess this one daylily loves cold weather, but its much prettier in warm weather.but, right now, with so many cloudy and drerry days,I will take anything I can get that looks like a bloom.When one of my daughters came her christmas day and seen what was left of the other bloom that had been on this one,she says you had a daylily blooming? in december?I told her yes,I did.She says "they don't bloom in the winter."I told her well, this one did.
