Anyone want blue wine bottles?

I have about 8 regular sized cobalt blue wine bottles (empty...sorry!). I was going to use them for something or other in the garden and now I am not.

It was really hard work emptying all those wine bottles so I'd like to see them go to a good home, if possible. You could plant them and they may grow into a bottle-tree? That was my original plan, actually.

i love blue bottles and have them in my yard but you are a bit far away for me. I am sure someone closer will nab them and appreciate them as I do!
If you are overrun with Senna trees (candleabra) They make good bottle trees. I cut the branches a little longer than the bottle , take the leaves off the area for the bottle to fit. Don't worry I have plenty more trees for my sulpher friends!

Hi GoldenPond - I wish you were closer too! I'd gladly give to you. I decided against the bottle tree mainly due to lack of space (small city yard) so decided I really dont need to keep the bottle collection any more either.

My bottle tree is made like yours but is taller. I used rebar for bottle holders. And like you I have just started putting it together. Have been saving donated vodka bottles for several years, And other odd bottles that I found. Now that they have the blue beer bottles, I bought four 12 packs (and I don't drink beer) been giving it to a friend who will drink it. My tree will hold 83 bottles, And the post is painted a medium blue. I need to cut 23 more pieces of rebar before I can finish it.

If you go to the places like TGIF, Olive Graden and the sports/wing places and ask them they will usually save bottles for you. The best is a local type place who usually have the same people working in them, some of the other places have too big a personnel changeover....If there is a large bar/nightclub anywhere near you that may work faster :-)(for the bottles, not you)

Thank you!, but gosh dont want you to have to start drinking! ask around maybe a friend of a friend, someone who works in a restaurant, could save you bottles, you could also use liquor bottles, so dont give up yet! No special paint,just regular craft paint, I set my painted bottles by a small heater to dry, seems like the paint sticks and drys better, I do use a spray sealer useing three light coats. Why not choose wines both you and your fiance like, that way you won't have to worry about buying too much. I don't think 1/2 bottle for prewedding, dinner and post dinner is nearly enough. At the bare minimum I would order at least 18 bottles, that's only 1 1/2 cases. Remember, most places give you a 10% case discount. A lot of your decision will also depend on how many non-drinkers you have. You may also want to have a few bottles of champagne available for wedding cake and toasts. If dinner is going to be something that goes with red wine than 67% of the wine should probably be red. If dinner is roasted chicken or lobster, I would do 100% white, plus champagne. If you run out of wine just after dinner, I suspect your guests will depart shortly after - which may or may not be a good thing! Good luck, jerri

well if you go to a swap bring them, I am sure someone will want them.I do not drink wine so my bottles are from yard sales, thrift stores and antique shoppes! I got some HUGE ones at an antique shoppe during the Caladium festival,Originally 5 bucks but on sale for 2.50 Yard sales,,,,50 cents to a buck for smaller ones.

our bottle tree, a bit covered in passion vine and french perfume jasmine. we added some horns, chimes, women's footwear(glass high heels:)) quite the centerpeice!

You are in St Pete ? come to the Plant Swap at Cheryl's on Oct. 31 and I'm sure there will be a mad dash for those blue-bottles plus you can pick up some neat things in their place ! see ya' there ! sally
