i would love to a closeup youtube about this Great Vidalia onion chopper.....

I read on here about the onion chopper. It was 20 bucks at BB and Beyond... looked on shelf and saw the WESTON brand for $30 . Had both the 20 % off and $5 off coupon with me. Thought the WEston might be better... I guess I should have bought both.. But that would have been shelling out $50 minus coupons.....

Did find for my peeled cukes first night. Not too fine next day for the cukes. Course only interested in the fine chopping one. The 1/2 inch size one seems to big for relishes.

It would not touch the onions..... Nor the leathery red or green bell peppers. Cut them both in quarters and slices etc , halves, NO GOO ..no go....

SO this BABY Is going back..

you all with the onion chopper I would love to see it actually work..... "says on box as seen on tv" I do not watch television. but that there is a clue it is probably junk

Are you talking about the Vidalia Chop Wizard? I can't find anything called the Great Vidalia Onion Chopper.

Or the Weston Multi Chopper which is a totally different thing?

Either way, all you have to do is Google the tool by its actual name to get links to videos on using it.

I have the Vidalia Onion Chopper. Love it. I actually have 2 - so I can put both my DD and DH to work at the same time!

The big screen I use for canning my diced peaches, diced pears, diced tomatoes, and for chopping my tomatoes for salsa.

You can't cut a onion whole on it. It depends on the size, but I usually cut the onions into 4ths. I cut it more if it's a big onion. I would probably have to chop a vidalia into 8 pieces.

This is the only product that I've gotten "As seen on TV" that actually works!

I'm in my 3rd year growing onions in larger quantities. First year, I harvested and cured them on the floor of my shop with what I thought was good ventilation and cool temps from fear of sunburning them if let outside, I lost almost half to rot. Last year, pulled and cured like Michael by covering with the tops out in the garden and didn't lose a single one. I finally chopped the last 10 lbs last month and froze them as this year's crop was starting and the stored onions were sprouting. I've got about 600 in the ground and stopped watering 2 varieties yesterday. They'll come out of the ground this weekend and I'll cure them in the garden for a week or so before storing. Saturday I attended a party where this mandolin was demonstrated. I was very under-impressed, and opted for purchasing their 'hold and slice' thing for just a few $$ and using my knife for slicing onions etc; and will take your advice and put my money towards a good food processor. I have fibro-myalgia and doing much with my hands is painful, plus dangerous because I've lost a lot of my grip. Turn frozen fruit into sorbet (bananas taste like ice cream). Most will require a little sweetening, but pineapple canned in its own juice (freeze and then cut into chunks) pleases most people without any extra. Make just about anything into spreads, dips, mousses, patees, salsas, chutneys, etc. You can chop up or puree fruit, vegetables, canned or cooked beans, cheese, fish and meats for these. Doing this is particularly useful for frozen stuff where the texture isn't as good as fresh. For example, instead of letting extra cheese dry up or go moldy, I freeze it and then turn it into cheese sauces or spreads. Even cream cheese, which falls apart when frozen. Shred and chop vegetables. Admittedly, if you want consistent large pieces it's best to do them by hand, but not everything needs that. For example, homemade cole slaw is a breeze. (A tip for more-even small pieces is shred them first and then chop briefly.) With practice it is possible to produce attractive vegetable slices, but not all the slices will be acceptable, so I use the processor only for big slicing jobs. As noted above, you can chop up your own meat -- important for chili where the meat should be coarser than ground. And fish for gefilte fish or quenelles, or even tuna loaf. Or use it to shred large amount of cheese (I'd rather use a hand grater for a small amount than clean the processor). I bake low-carb and grain-free so I'm always grinding nuts (even the pre-ground ones can stand being made finer) as well as other ingredients. When I use canned fish (for savory breads) I puree the bones for more calcium. (Or for coarser things like salmon loaf, put the bones in first to puree them while leaving the flesh chunky.) For grain-based baking, it makes dough-making a breeze for even the heaviest or slackest doughs. And turn your stale bread into breadcrumbs. What doesn't a food processor do well? Large amounts of liquid -- use a blender for that. Perfect cubes of any size. A high yield of perfect slices. And small jobs, like chopping up a few herbs or handful of vegetables, are best left to the mini-processors.

Thanks Lars, Annie, and Linda C! Lars, I was thinking a small FP to save counter space. Knowing how I am, I probably won't bother to use the FP if I have to pull it out every time I need it! I am just too lazy! LOL Annie, I have an Oster blender that does a very good job making puree. I need a food processor that will make coarse texture like pie crust crumbs. I also would like to use it to process cooked chickpeas to make vegetarian burgers, also very coarse texture. These are the two main reasons I want a food processor. Linda, I have an Old Kitchen Center that has all the discs for slicing and dicing. Strange enough, it doesn't have the "S" blade so can't use it as a food processor. One of these days I might just get rid of all these odd gadgets and get one or two very large ones to replace them all. Wouldn't it be easier that way? LOL Al

The chopper that I posted in my earlier post (I included it here, too) is the one I use and it is fantastic. I've chopped onions, peppers (cut into 8ths so the pieces are more uniform), cukes, summer squash...basically most veggies. It made the process of prepping salsa 10 times faster. I enjoy the process of using my knives. However sometimes it's just more convenient to use the chopper, especially when I need lots of small, uniform pieces.

The caveat I have with it is that sometimes you need to use force to get it to chop through, especially if you're chopping a half of an onion. I've had to use both hands and put my full weight on the top to get it to go through.

I got it at my local hardware store. It is the "Progressive International" brand.

FWIW - Progressive International makes the Vidalia Onion Chopper, the as seen on TV one. The only difference is a sticker that is stuck on the lid that says Vidalia Onion Chopper.

I have the Vadalia Chop Wizard and I LOVE it, In fact I am going to use my $5.00 coupon from Bed Bath & Beyond and get a second one, wouldn't want to be without it, you do have to cut some things to a smaller thickness so it works well but that is still better then chopping it all.

I broke my first one doing just that. Amazoned two more to take its place maybe 2 years ago. One is still new in the box.

There are a few tricks to using them on diff veggies. Skin side up for dicing peppers & it saves time to slice the onions first. That way the only hard to push through pieces are the very top and the very bottom.
