Congratulations on the awards! Way to go. Did you notice a big increase in the number of entries this year? We sure did. And in the crowd numbers in the foods hall this year too. It's great to see so many new folks talking an interest in food preservation. :)

I'm not sure about the amount of canners and any increase in participants, but I do know the Cooperative Extension had to have two more canning classes this year, in the evenings, as all her classes got full and there was much more demand.

The co-op lady is the one that pushes me to enter the fair. Originally, I wasn't going to do it this year. But I did, and I won again. I've got my eye on Linda Lou's SWEET APPLE RELISH for an entry for next year! I think the judges are intrigued by something new and different.

Everyone on this forum deserves to play a part in those ribbons. I'm just bragging on you guys all the time. How you push to do it correctly and properly, keeping safety in mind, along with the hard work and joy from it.
Cooking is an art, canning is a science. You've taught me that and I love the fact that you don't deviate from that.
Canning is addictive and we are all duly warned when we wander into this site. Ribbons are just the 'icing on the cake' and reflect on your safe, great recipes! You deserve to be recognized.

Why not a resurgance of the country fair I say! Sure beats sitting at home watching TV or doing video games. And is a cheap hobby too, if you consider what the price would be of buying all those hand crafted goodies! America is getting poorer in money, but we may discover ways to be richer in spirit!

I will see this weekend how many canners there are for our big fair. The fair starts this Saturday. Usually the shelves are packed at our large fair. In fact they added circular displays for all the 1st and 2nd's and the display Blues were on the top of the circular displays.

The county fair in August the canning shelves were extremely sparse.

I didn't do as much as I usually do for this week, only 7 items, no displays.
But, I went ahead and made a batch of the Raspberry Chocolate Jam Recipe for the Raspberry Jam category, so we shall see how the extension gals like something with a twist.
Additionally PA's state fair is in January, every year I threaten to submit, maybe I will this time.

The winning spaghetti sauce at the office 6 out of 6 liked the Roasted Italian Seasoned Sauce over the Tomato Basil
so, that one is being entered.

Dave, I hear from many people they are returning or starting canning..just hope they are following the new guidelines!

I also think it is great on burgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches. My mom was from the south and she ate it on top of her pinto beans.
