Weird finds!! The first does look like a bird bill. What is that last thing??? Lellie, are you going to keep the eggs and let them hatch? Would be cool to see what pops out!

The eggs are likely lizards. I'd say the "bill" is a bone.

Solved the 'egg' mystery.
They're not eggs at all but a couple of fruits that dropped off my aspargus fern...Oh, dopey me! :o

The bill really looks like a bill...you can't tell from the photo but it is two-sided with the underside being concave...and hollow in the middle.
If its a bone, tho...I wonder what kind.

Dunno what happened to the frog...I found'm in that 'sitting' position...like he just sat down one day to die...I mean, if frogs could actually sit...LOL

Ummmm...your eggs don't look like asparagus fern fruit to me. I think you may have been right the first time. They look just like lizard eggs. But maybe you have broken them open and found out that they are "fruity" inside? In the photo, I would have sworn they were lizard eggs.

The other thing (on top) doesn't look like any real life bird bill I ever saw. The top portion is too perfectly straight across, for one thing. Are you absolutely sure it isn't plastic of some sort? It's interesting, for sure. Let us know if you identify it. Check with your local college and see if someone there can confirm what the material is, and you'll have a better idea.

The petrified frog is a more common thing. I've seen dead frogs look like that from time to time. He probably did just "croak" (pardon my pun) there, and for whatever reason, got dried out and mummified. (Maybe the extreme heat of this summer, during the drought, did it.)

Lellie, I finally realized what it was about your "bird bill" photo that made me so dubious...no nostrils! Most birds with beaks of that sort (ducks, geese and the like) have nostrils in the beak itself, as shown here in this picture of a common mallard's beak. Also, notice how the top of the mallard's beak has a sort of scalloped shaped edge where it connects to the bird's head, as opposed to your find, which looks very straight across that area. I'm still wondering what your odd find might be, but I honestly don't think it is going to be avian. Still, it would be fun to know what kind of artifact you dug up!

Looks like to me it could be a "boot" from the fox tail palm?

Last yr I picked up a load of county compost and spread it in the garden. As I was raking it smooth, this is what I found.

I doubt it is real gold but looks good.

I wonder what else is in that compost?

"There's GOLD in them thar hills...of compost!" You guys are finding some fun things in your dirt! I once dug up a thingie that I really believe is a petrified mold from a turtle or tortoise head. I still have it packed away somewhere. If I find it, I'll photograph it. It's the most interesting thing I've ever found, other than the occasional live worm snake or the like.

*thinking hard, here...maybe if I go get a truckload of compost, I'll be RICH!...nodding head happily*
