Play Date at Veronika's, Thanks so much.

Veronika, Thanks for hosting the party. It was wonderful to meet many of you, see others that I haven't seen for a while and have a great lunch and seeing your beautiful home and garden. Thanks to Jerry (Gerry) too, for your hospitality. As Kathy said we used to bring tons of plants for the swap, now it is more about seeing each other, well the plants too, ha ha.

Me too, lots of fun. Great hosts, great food and great friends, plus plants. It just doesn't get any better then this. I managed to get a couple in the ground, but we are getting a thunder storm so that was the end of that till tomorrow. ;o) Thanks Veronika for hosting this and the tour of your lovely garden.

Hi rosebuds---thanks again for all your warm and healing thoughts. I'm doing quite well for my age----I just recieved an e-mail from the nurse who took care of me when I had the myelogram---she was only in her 50's and in great shape when she had back surgery---she said the first 4 weeks were like a nightmare and she felt like a broken toy but eventually she was up to her old self and back to rock-climbing----so I will continue with the pain meds and the 10 min walks inside my home----no rock-climbing for me LOL but it will be wonderful to be able to enjoy the spring flowers and the roses. Sitting periods are restricted to 30 min. but I will try to visit here when I can-----It is so nice to read about everyone's garden Hope everyone is OK. Florence thanks again

No idea what to think here as to play date vs date. I guess that unless it were actually me arranging this 'day' for myself and my child or without knowing at least one of the persons involved in the planned 'day'...we're pretty much just tossing out thoughts on something 'we' know nothing about. Are the adults co-workers? Live in same apartment complex/condo? Meet at daycare? I think how the two adults even know each other might add weight in thinking what to term the event. If I were to turn to a co-worker I know well but never thought of 'dating' and said 'hey kid and I are going to the beach/zoo/whatever, if you think your kid would enjoy it, come and tag along'...I'd say day out being co-workers giving kids a chance to have fun and give me someone to visit with and enjoy the day. If I were to ask a male who I see everyday picking his kid up from daycare and had no knowledge/relationship with other than struck up meaningless 'great weather we're having' convo to suddenly say 'hey why don't our kids go to beach/zoo/whatever this Saturday together and we can all have lunch'...I'd think I were date hunting and looking for more than a playdate for my child. This statement has me curious --" I asked on a forum because that is less invasive than asking the parent and making a big fuss about them possibly starting to date again.(especially if they aren't) It was unusual also because previous play dates were arranged around the 6yo and their school friends only".-- It seems the people being asked about in this make believe 'what do you think' thread may not so quite so 'made-up'. If that is the case, does it matter if this adult is thinking of dating again? What has the timeline been between this person's divorce and this possible date/playdate? Has the person been dating minus the kids tagging along with anyone of late? Is this a trial run to see how the other person even relates to children before thinking of a possible real date? Is there a chance the person arranging the event is plain 'man hunting' and using her child to do so? No, I don't expect answers to any of those questions, but the idea was to ask yourself these questions and see how you may now view your original 'what do you think'. If you (not me) had answers to all these questions and knowledge of the people asking and being asked about the play date/date would you still be asking 'what do you all on this forum think'?

Eh...I don't do "playdates" like that and I'm not personally aware of anyone in my social circle that does either. I live in a neighborhood of 60 homes. Out of those 60, I believe 10 have children. Five of them I know for a fact because the kids are in my kids grades. One mom and I are very friendly with each other and it is not at all uncommon for us or them to be out on a walk, see each other and end up playing together. I won't allow my kids to go knock on her door and she doesn't let her kids come knock on mine because we are both really busy and sometimes it just isn't convenient. We will text each other though, "you and the kids want to come over?" Or "out for a walk, mind if we stop by?". I guess the modern day equivalent of knocking on the door and asking to play. Our kids aren't old enough to run free yet but I see plenty of 10-15 year olds riding bikes or driving golf carts. Some of them I don't really approve of but, cest la vie. The rest of my kids friends live too far away to ride bikes to so yes, we once again have to contact parents and then one of us has to drive to the others place. But that is never scheduled more than a few hours to a day or two in advance. I don't like things being overly scheduled so I try to plan for no more than one event per weekend. It's leave plenty of free time for living!! Doing things like playing in the backyard with the kids when our friends ride by on their bikes and they end up playing while mom and I visit. ;) As far as weekends go, mine are already booked up until the end of July. We have friends visiting this weekend, a family event the next, my girls weekend after that, followed by our family vacation. So right now I have been joking with my friends that we aren't available until the end of July but that only applies to weekends. Some of them are busy households with 2 working parents so they aren't available during the week but my teacher friends and other stay at home mom's are and we will see each other and catch up this summer.

What a great day we had!
Thank you so much to all of you who have come. We had so much fun having you over, the garden will be glowing from all that positive energy at least another month. And the new plants! Even though I had not planned to trade as much, somehow I ended up with so many beauties. Also Big thanks to Nancy for a beautiful arrangement of flowers (if you like the vase back, stop by any time), to Coffeemom for the candle and flag (it has temporarily moved to J3's room now), Tony and Mary Beth for the lychee gumies for J3 he loves them so much and the DF seedlings, Cliff for the beautiful orchid.

Sorry to those who could not come, we missed you. Maybe next year, Jerry and I have decided to make this an annual event.
Hopefully, next year we will remember to take pictures. LOL

Tony - That Coconut Palm was one of the plants that really caught my eye as well. The spoon and second curve give it wonderful character.

For everyone who picked up Crotons from me, keep them in the pot until the spring. Many of them are only out of the mistbed 4 or 5 weeks.

I think we need an on-line schedule for perennial swaps so we can all plan ahead and not overlap. I'll start a page later today. If you want to have your swap added to the list send me an e-mail and at least 3 or 4 photos of you, your garden, a bottle of whisky, whatever, just to make the page interesting.

Thank you Veronika for hosting the play date. I had such a wonderful time meeting everyone and touring your garden. If I didn't have the garden bug before I such do now! Thank you everyone for the plants I received. I can't wait to get them in the ground...if it stops raining. I'm so glad I went. I almost didn't because I was a bit nervous. I kinda felt like "the new kid" in school but everyone was so nice. I can't wait to see everyone again.
