Got my Maryott order

I don't think I've ordered from Maryott's for a couple of years, I forget just how generous they are. I ordered

Inner Vision

Spacecoast Sea Shells

Mississippi Blues

Wild child

& another one I can't think of

Bonuses were

Fiesta Flirt

Berry Delicious

Infernal Fire

and Inner Vision

I had forgotten that a couple I ordered were BOGO, but still, like Wild Child was at least 5 fans for each one. That should be a huge clump next year!

well, you may get some blooms this fall from them. sounds like you got some very pretty ones.

I got mine last week and planted right away. I see you & I both got the weekly special bonus 'Infernal Fire'. Mine has a scape on it so I hope it has time to amount to something before frost. I checked the website every few days to see what the special bonus was and held off ordering until I saw one I really wanted. I liked the look of Infernal Fire and also that I only had to order $50 or more to get it and it alone sells for $100. I feel like I robbed a bank...LOL. YES, Bill is extremely generous and makes opening the box exciting! I always give him little suggestions and he never disappoints.

A few thoughts: I had some rust starting to show up on my plants this spring, and I had the same conversation with Bill Maryott. Cabrio is expensive and only sold in a gigantic container...but you might find that your local daylily club buys the fungicides and shares the cost among the members. Anyway, previously I had been treating mine with a less effective fungicide based on some older studies published online. When I started seeing rust, I cut back the infected and adjacent leaves, and within a couple weeks I started with the Cabrio, and I'm going to alternate with propiconazole (which I found at a local garden store). It seems to be working. I don't know how bad your rust was, but there are ways to bring a plant back from it. I can imagine it was a daunting idea to try to do something with your ~150 plants, though. Also, you can get rust even if you only buy from rust-free vendors. Where I live, there are daylilies all around the neighborhood, so it only takes one person's plant to spread it to everyone. Be proactive and treat preventatively. Hopefully it will work! Good luck! Alina, I just ripped open a bag of potting soil length wise in a wheelbarrow and temporarily planted my daylily order in there & watered them in. They got Sun until about Noon & they rooted well, increased and even flowered in that bag of potting soil before I got them bigger homes! Victorian Lace is the only daylily on your list I grow & I just adore that daylily! It gives me loads of flowers that are always picture perfect, no matter how cool the nights are. You are going to have one gorgeous garden next year ~ hope you will post photos! marea

Nat, I do indeed grow Pope John Paul II and a few other hybrid teas. All hybrid teas in our climate will die back to only a few inches (or to the mulch line if you mound the base with soil or mulch). I used to grow more hybrid teas but have gotten tired of the winter dieback so I only kept a few, and PJP is one that I just had to keep because of the fragrance and sheer beauty of those pristine white blooms. Even though it gets pruned back to only a few inches tall in the spring, it rallys and will come back to bloom and be lovely all summer. My advice is to mound up some soil around the base of it to about a foot in the late fall. Next spring you will find that the top of it will be all brown and dead, but once you remove the soil from around it in the spring you should find some green, live cane. Prune it back to that green cane and it will sprout new growth that will produce flowers later. Most of my roses, with the exception of the old once-bloomers and rugosas (and a few Canadian-bred roses) will have quite a bit of dieback, but so long as there is some green cane, no matter how little, your rose will come back. Make sure you don't remove the winter protection until the ground and temps warm up fairly consistently (usually late April to early May here). Ownroot roses will come back even if the plant appears brown to the ground, because they come back from their roots. But I grow mostly grafted here because ownroots struggle in our climate, and I haven't lost a rose to winter yet. I've learned to accept the fact that in zone 4, most roses have to be pruned back fairly drastically in the spring. But no one would think by looking at them all in bloom in June that they ever had a 'haircut'....they grow rapidly and the pruning really stimulates blooming. Take care, Celeste

Hi all! Jan, I am also impressed by Gilded Shadows, considering these plants are flowering with cutoff leaves and transplant shock. It really is pretty. Then, I look at the parentage, and I couldn't say anything more: Michael Miller X (Big Sur X Great White). Kay, I got Best in Class as a bonus. I've always wanted it, but decided to delay the purchase. So I was ecstatic when I saw it in the box. It is the smallest plant in the box, yet it managed to produce a scape. It will bloom tomorrow as the bud is beginning to open now. Unfortunately, we will have lots of rain tonight and tomorrow, too. Rita, I ordered the 'Around the World' collection and then, some more, and still more! Your postings as well as Fairysoapgirl's led me to the Maryott's. And was I ever so glad! Bill Maryott's future planned introductions are looking so impressive, too. Wild Cherry Roundup seems to be a great performer. It came with a cut-off scape, then, put out a blooming scape, and then, I have just noticed that there is another scape that is now coming out! Daylilies spell happines! Bj

I met Bill at our regional meeting. Had spoken with him previously about daylily pedigrees and he actually remembered who I was! He is such a gracious and patient gentleman, so happy to answer my questions and give advice. Beautiful plants, generous bonuses. My plants will ship next week - cant wait to open the box! Maryott's is such a delight to order from!

Well, I mentioned Inner Vision twice above, but actually my bonus was Best in Class, one I considered ordering in the first place. Bill must have read my mind.
I've admired Berry Delicious & like the looks of fiesta Flirt, so I'm delighted with my bonus plants. I was watching for a bonus I really liked too, Celeste, & ran with it when I saw Infernal Fire! I hope I get to see a bloom or two from them, I remember I did when I've ordered before.

Alameda, I too ordered when Rachelle Agin was a special! Ha, last year I swore not to order after August. But, did it again, even later than last year.
Oh, also, can anybody tell me how to pronounce Linda Agin's last name correctly??

Got my daylilies all planted! I wish I had ordered just a few more, I have some spots that need filling. I lost more daylilies than I thought this year, & another couple that may not make it. Lost a huge clump of Cherry Cheeks, and I love that one. Fortunately, when I moved it last, apparently I missed a bit of it, so I have a couple of fans of it in its old spot. I think I lost Jen Melon too, an oldie that I can probably replace with a newer, better one, but I will miss her. South Seas wasn't dormant, not a bit showed back up, I'll miss that one too. Red Reward is gone, but I've got some other nice reds. Fortunately, the others I lost I won't especially miss. Just need to fill their spots.

That is really unfortunate about your loosing daylilies most years and especially those you lost this year. Honestly, that doesn't happen here, thank goodness. But I didn't do that much dividing this year. I moved lots of Tall Bearded Iris but was dissapointed while working that the clumps were just big enough to move but not big and dividable like I figgured they should be. Then I moved all the daylilies from the bed I now have the iris in (well I actually moved the daylilies first) but those were hardly clumps even after years of being here. Maybe they will all do better in their new homes.

Nancy, wait until next year to see if you reallylost South Seas. That is exactly what happened to me last year, but it put up new fans this year, and bloomed, then re-bloomed. It may just be resting from the heat.

Just hasn't been a great year for daylilies for me. They have bloomed pretty well, especially considering the June drought. Still, we've gotten pretty steady rain since early July. I haven't gotten as much rebloom as I expected, and daylilies haven't increased like I had hoped. Some of my favorites I had hoped to see lots of increase, like Clown Parade & Hello Heartstrings. Nice healthy big fans, but no new fans. They will probably take off nicely next year though. I've been moving iris like mad in the new beds I made for them. Not quite finished yet, but just 2 or 3 left to move that I forgot earlier. I've been moving daylilies around too. Just have to decide which ones I like the least to move down to death row :)
