Amaryllis 101

Bury only thick white roots, trim all spaghetti and dry roots off. Let the bulb 'set on top' of the soil line so that just the roots and 1/4 of the bulb bottom is under soil. That's my story and I am sticking to it!!

If people are really interested, I spent the winter pollinating all my hybrid and noid amaryllis bulbs and have tons of babies. If anyone is interested in having some, they will take about 2 years to mature and bloom. Perhaps longer. Amaryllis are one of the easiest blooming beauties to grow in Florida. They are very drought tolerant. The colors, textures and combinations are endless.

Hey guys, I have 3 generous Aztek Gold Plumie cuttings. A few of it's branches were getting too long and hitting the pool cage. Much to my delight, when I went out to trim her, she is blooming on all the other side. Tony, you want this one, I will reserve one for you. It has a really sweet light fragrance.

It starts out peach colored and then deepens to yellow gold.

I will give you some cuttings of Cordia Globosa (blood berry), it is one of the natives. The bees and butterflies are all over it, and I am pretty sure it will take your hot hot sun. You can trim it into anything you would like.
Also for anybody else, I will take cuttings for all interested.

Tony, this Plumie blomed this spring and had flowers for a couple months. Then looking over at my neighbors last week, I was jealous to see her Az Gold in bloom again. It wasn't till I went around the outside of the pool cage that I realized mine was in bloom again too. My Jamaican neighbors really love seeing the blooms of two of my trees that face their patio door.

Cliff, after you trimmed that monster red one at my swap, the man came while mowing over and told me he was so sad it died, he and his wife loved looking at the flowers. I told him it would come back again. What I really need to do is start a plant for them!

Jupiter, I would love a piece of your coleus. I have a couple of rooted ones too that I'll bring. You can let me know if anything strikes your fancy! I have a hawaiian double white rooted for you, and if you like I can bring you more unrooted cuttings.

Tony, I'm cutting back or removing a couple of plummies, I've got a no name white with yellow center if you'd like it...it's probably about 4 to 6 feet tall and in the ground so I'm not sure if it will survive intact. If not we can hack it to pieces and spread her around!

Veronika, is it too late to join in. I've been a bit out of touch lately. D'Ann has some coleus for me that I'd love to get since most of mine went to sleep (permanently) over the summer. I have to thin out so I don't really want anything other than the coleus. I'll see what I can get out to bring plant wise. I'll think about what to bring food wise if I can come, please, please. Does anyone want a good sized ming aralia, I have two that sprouted from Mama, they are 3'-4' and gorgeous in bouquets.
It is the fine ferny foliage at the bottom of the bouquet.

Nancy, I have a brug rooted, but don't know the color you can have or I can bring you a piece of the yellow unrooted, if you need a yellow one. JLMK ;o) This was a very hard year on the brugs, I think, not enough water for all the heat. Mine never look really good in the summer, but this year was the worse, with no rain.

If you could spare a cutting on the yellow one I'd appreciate it. Yours was so pretty. Thanks so much.

I can't believe I am going to miss your playdate. I was about to leave for your house and I was combing my hair when I saw something that looked like lice (nits)!!! I ran to check my daughter's hair and it looks like she has it too. I am sure she got it at school and then gave it to me!!! So here I am doing loads of laundry and checking hair instead of having fun at your house. I want to cry!!!

Oh Carmen, I am so sorry you couldn't make it,it would have been good to see you again. And what a terrible reason too. I know there are some products you can buy to kill them and a special comb to comb them out. Hope you can get them killed off very quickly.

They can be so hard to get rid of !

I remember about 15 years ago stopping by my sisters house to drop something off and she came running out of the house,not letting me in. Her daughters had them. She knew that if I ever got them it would be hell to comb the out of my hair. I think she ended up soaking the kids hair in olive oil one weekend ( after she use the other stuff). All the stuffed animals ,bedding, needed to be treated .
