Mort Morss and Crown rot

I lost Mort Morss to crown rot this summer during the 4 week heat wave we had. It was in a 7 gallon pot with Mircle Grow Moisture soil and I wonder if this contributed to my problem. It was new to me this spring. I'm very thankful it was the only one that died of about 50 new ones. It was an awesome plant when I got it so it wasn't the seller's fault but it just never took to growing like the rest did. It did bloom and I think I got a few seeds. By the time I realized that it really was sick, it was too late.

I've got a couple more that look puny but with the cooler weather, I think they will make it, maybe?

I really want Mort for my seedling patch, but if it's not a good plant, then I'm not going to buy it again. All info is appreciated.

Blessings to all, Mona
