Me too! We found some awesome big plastic buckets with the rope handles at Big Lots cheap. I snatched 5 of them, probably should run back and get more if there are any left. Planted zuccini in one, tomatos in 2, and a fig tree in one. I have some pepper seeds I might do in one. Also planted sugar peas and bush beans in the ground. I haven't decided what else to plant, only have one row left to plant in the ground, maybe collards or cabbage. Can we grow Kale here?

Rita - Wish you the best in your garden! All the greens do great here when the cool weather arrives and kale is one of my favorites.

Silvia, you must be the healthiest soul in the state of Florida with all your yummy, fresh, beautiful veggies! I hope my garden does better this Fall and next Spring - the only thing that we got a good crop of was early this year - we actually had green peas for the first time. Must be because I planted them early enough to yield before it got hot. But even my green beans didn't do well - they got a wilting, rusting disease - could have been too much water. And I've always been able to grow green beans if nothing else.

Rita - We had a good pea weather because we had a lot of cold and we also had a very hot summer, beans planted late got too much heat and rains probably that is the reason you had rust. I planted recently pole beans I like them better than bush, even my lima and butterbeans are delayed in the production.

Sam - And I thought that you were a nice man! I was wrong! lol.

I have 3 beauties in the house, here they are ready for a Valentine's Day party last year.

County compost is great. Finally got a nice load, and boy am I happy. I have been planting like crazy and today I just finally sat down for a tasty lunch, after digging in the yard all morning long. Too many projects, and having the compost sure makes it more fun to plant.

Silvia, I saw your picture and first thing I thought "What a cute pup" He sure is cute, veggies look awesome, but he was the centerpiece in that picture

Man, Sam...I believe in "cant say anything nice- then do not say anything at all" ...I think it would have applied nicely in this situation :)

Oh yum. You are quite a chef. I had tabouli (from Costco but darn good) and baked salmon - and that is a fancy lunch for me. The names of the dishes you make always make me drool - there is no better way to describe it.

Nice trees! I bought more (more!!) blueberry plants and one Natches blackberry. Saw Natches, Emerald and Southern Belle on clearance rack at Lowes (3 bucks, plants still looks like they have plenty of life in them) - figured I had plenty of compost and pine bark fines and just had to buy them. Sweated all morning long and evening last night, removing soil and mixing in compost :)

Off to garden more :)

Ninecrow - The Boxer dog is mine if you are referring to Bonzai, the one we got conversing about last year after the pictures from the swap were posted. She is only going to be around a few more months though. At 11 years old she is an old lady and fading fast.

Melissa, now that is so funny! You do have a great memory! And that is Nikki as you remember her, we actually have to watch when having a party because she likes to play ball with everybody, she thinks the guests are coming to see her. The three are on the welcoming committee too,lol.

And I was thinking who has the boxer? thank you for remind us about Bonzai and I am sorry she is getting old, I know that we do love our dogs like a family.

We were some serious thread hijackers there. :) Back on topic though, I was looking at the yard and thought about planting some stuff this weekend but it is really dry at my house still so I decided to wait. It is still hot enough that I would be babying everything and don't really have that time.

Smart you, I set my tomatoes yesterday because it was overcast, and predicted overcast and cloudy this week, then it cleared off yesterday afternoon and I kept having to dowse my containers, and the overcast from this morning is gone, bright and sunny now...I'm afraid when I get home form work they'll be goners :-(

Did a big variety of planting today because just got tomatoes to set on my first two buckets a couple of days ago!

Was gone for a month to UP michigan looking for cooler weather. The 2 buckets were on automatic watering in Al's mix with a few minor differences. Had a neighbor taking care of 3 clay pots with my next set of tomatoes, she did a good job with them and I promptly lost them in 5 gal buckets with Al's mix, man when it is hot and dry, you can not leave them from morning till night or they are goner's. Hope your's came through OK Tom!

Have my next stage of tomatoes coming along, 1/2 in 8" clay pots and 1/2 still in the 3oz cups.

Cleaned my 2 raised beds today and put seeds in my original column concrete block containers. Used lot's of worm castings as I had a good batch when I got home from North.

Silia, I have a black jungle butterbean that is growing very large, blooms, but not setting any beans. Is that normal?

Tom, how is your FIL's garden coming. He always gets good produce before I can.

My mango crop was "zilch" this summer, weird weather. Folks closer to the coast had a bumper crop this year.

Hi everyone: It was still pretty hot here this weekend (just outside Tallahassee), so I opted to spend time cleaning out beds and harvesting late summer veggies. Enjoyed our first sweet potatoes with grilled salmon and mango jalapeno jam for dinner on Saturday night. I'm craving those fall greens, though!

PS: I enjoyed the puppy pics, and the pie looks delicious. Are you going to post the recipe, please? What kind of dog is Pooh?
