Palm Beach Zoo

Some of you may have heard on the news we had a breakin here at the zoo wed. night. Three gates were broken and several sheds broken into one held rare and endangered Beach Mice thankfully they were not harmed. The thieves did however take 4 monkeys and a parrot. About 2.30 yesterday acting on a tip police found all animals in a variety of cages including a tupperware container in a very hot shed. Last night it looked bad for one of the monkeys but today I am happy to say all animals are doing fine. The police have names of the people belived to be responsible so hopefully they will be arrested today and locked in tupperware containers of their own. Just wanted to share a happy ending to what was very close to being a catastrophe.

Katie, I don't know what to say. Hopefully at least 1 of the monkeys got in a good bite. I'm glad it had a happy ending but maybe they should lock the thieves in with a "take your face off" chimp!

Hmmm, I planted ranuculus and anemones and peonies in that spot but I have no ideas which it is, lol. It pretty though. The foliage looks the same on the blue one as the pink and white one. As to the cacus I'll look up candelabra. I have never seen it other than the cuttings so I don't know what the plant will look like. Rigo can you post a pic of your grown plant? Does it flower? I hope the thunbergia is grandiflora that would be great. I got it in the season last year and only got a few blooms before it went dormant. My neighbor said it was hardy for him so I planted it outside and hoped for the best. My philodendron is coming back I planted in the front bed too. Miss B Havin is having her first bloom. I just got back from a party but I'll see if I can go out and get pic. These glasses I just got or the beer is making typing kind of difficult. I keep having to go back and correct myself, lol. Rigo the 3rd one you mean the cactus cuttings or the tube shaped flower shrub? Those flowers were kind of past their prime. They were dark purple before they started drying out. I wonder if they only bloom on old wood. Only one stem bloomed and all the new green wood doesn't look like it has any blooms setting. It was a cutting I took from somewhere last year.

I'm laughing so hard right now.... I walk in my neighborhood for exercise. I have been admiring this absolutely gorgeous, well-established Royal Poincianna and want one of my very own. The problem is - no seeds to, um, 'Relocate' because of their much too efficient yard service. They probably see this Crazy Lady walking up and down the side-walk looking up at the tree and the too high over-hanging branches who is jumping trying to grab a large seed pod that is too high and out of reach. The things we do for flowering/fruiting trees... So, a few blocks away, there is a smaller, less-established Poincianni (actually, I think it's a dwarf). I always grab a seed pod. I feel like I'm stealing an apple from the King's Garden or something. And, then, I run. When I get home, I immediately plant the seeds. They never root and they always die. My pennance for the crime, I suppose.

Thanks you guys my feelings exactly! yesterday was a day of tears, anger, and frustration but finally followed by joy. None of us who work at the zoo will ever be rich we do it for the love of the animals and for me the plants as well but what hurts the zoo or our animals hurts all who work there as we are all truly commited.

So glad all the animals were found and recovering. Can't believe how horrible some people can be! Hope justice is served ...... like illman says.

This is the first I have heard this news. How shocking but I am so glad the animals are safe and back at the zoo. I hope they put those predators under the jail.

I heard on the news they were teenagers. What were they thinking? Selling the animals so they could get their fix?
Hopefully they will get their fix in jail!
