Oh no, I'm in trouble now!

So I thought I'd made my selections for late summer plantings - all open-pollinated goodness from southernexposure. I was tempted to order one more tomato variety, the supposedly native Everglades currant, and made the mistake of searching it out on the web instead of just ordering it where I heard about it.

Now I'm doomed! There's this whole forum filled with people who've had SUCCESS growing in Florida conditions! And they have the nerve to say things like, 'Pick a couple of my varieties, send me an envelope, and I'll share with you for free!'

I've already decided that I'm extending the bed I had set aside this spring and never got anything planted in. I think I'm also going to have a bunch of containers going. My husband is going to absolutely HATE me.

::sigh::

Seriously, though, this place is awesome. I'll probably be up all night reading, and then you all will get positively tired of the questions I've already got =)

We have daytime temps in the 50's all winter here and mine in pots are all still asleep. Pansies and camelias are in bloom now. I wouldn't worry too much. It that one eye gets frozen, then more dormant eyes will poke up at the regular time. UNLESS that was a one eyed plant to begin with, then you might start wringing your hands, or think about adding that one to your spring hosta orders. Or enjoying some Canadian Ice Wine. Yum. -Babka

Hi there Hazel, A)just wondered have you had any luck wth the window cill incident? Did the toothpaste work? Have heard about a product specifically made for cleaning UPVC units, but no idea what or where is is available from....have you tried contacting a UPVC window instaler for advice...worth a try maybe for the sake of the cost of a phonecall? Your posting prompted me to check my propagator....yes, it too is on one of the lounge cills, we have hardwood frames...all was fine. Told d/h of the problem you had and he assured me he had checked the heat of the bottom of it before allowing me to put it on the cill...something I had never thought to do!!!phew, what a relief! Hope you can sort it. B)BTW how are the Proteas coming on, had to do a spot of googling when you mentioned the smoke rings, but know know wht they are! Interesting project..mmmh, youngest daughter is off to Jo'burg to visit her b/friends family in Oct, wonder if she will have room for some S.A.seeds!!?? haha! Will check the regs as usual. You can join for $15 for three months if that's more palatable. I learned about Train Game here, and after playing for a while, I did join as a paying member of the site, and I pay on the three-month plan. There are dozens of games, and I enjoy some of the others just as much as Train. As much time as I spend there, I figure $5 a month isn't bad. (It's not much more than renting a movie, and that only provides 2 hours of entertainment.) Not trying to push anyone. I just wanted to make sure you knew about the other option. At least you are getting notice. Jail cells need plenty of tic before they are livable. You can go shopping for some nice bright patterned sheets, under-cot storage, a little Ikea desk and one of those cube storage systems for your clothes. And a few nice houseplants. Don't forget a little hand held bell so you can summon the jailer to bring you extra snacks when it is time for TV watching.

Unless your DH hates tomatoes, he'll praise you when he eats his first home grown. :o) And then you'll really be hooked and be trying to grow everything at home. Like the rest of us. lol

Not me! I still do all my veggie gardening in the produce aisle at Publix.

Sorry to have to admit that we haven't had any luck growing tomatoes here. seems like they just get going and we have a frost.

So I also shop the produce aisle at Publix. (Have to as I work at Publix, LOL.)

Hi Tomkaren,

Grow some Tumbling Toms in the fall in hanging baskets. My sister lives in Lecanto and that's what I give her because she can move them in at night when frost is threatening. Also, it's so much cooler there at night during the summer that you can usually start some late season cherries in March, shelter them and set the last week of April and they'll produce til August.

My husband is also a Publix produce believer so in order to sneak some homegrowns in the house, I have to print a little "Publix" word on them.
