Spider ID PLEASE

This handsome fellow was under a huge thnbergia I was sorting out.I love to ID critters especially insects to find out if they are good or bad but my books failed me and i keep getting virus warnings when I check entomology sites on the web.(phony I think but a nuisance)

He got out of the coffee can I had him in and made himself at home above my backdoor

It looks like a member of either the yellow silk spider or the yellow garden spider.

It's a Golden Silk Spider. Some years I've had dozens of them in my yard. Never been bit.

My husband refutes my son and says it is a lynx spider (says they dont have to be green). He says they sit on leaves with a lasso and jump and grab upcoming prey.

Yes, an orb weaver. Probably just hanging out in a sheltered place for the day. She'll go back to her web in the evening.

I'm voting for the banded argiope, too. After the females have finished building that large egg sac and have filled with chock full of eggs, they shrink up and die. These spiders do have a silvery, furry cephalothorax.

Don't mean to hijack your thread but I have a similar looking spider in North Alabama and was about to start a new thread. It looks very similar. I can't get a better pic without falling off our back porch railing. But it is the other side of what appears to be a similar orb weaver. The web is 18-24 inches in diameter. She finished it overnight.
