Lori, It is like a joke for me when I read your post. Are you kidding me?? Lost from rain ha-ha-ha ( I am not laughing that you lost plants it is very sad) I am crying for rain every day ? We have not had rain for WEEKSSSSSSSSSSS� Please send it my way, Tarpon! I am loosing plants from heat and dryness.

Lori I am so sorry--- we have not had that much rain, here in downtown St Pete, just occasional and I still have to run the sprinklers..... I don't have much vervain left but will start some cuttings so there will be more in case you do want it later.. also I have those epi's from the Swap and can make more cuttings for you, also lots of Christmas cactus, different colors..... sally

Gosh Sally, up here on the north side of St. Pete I've had rain almost every day. Even though my tomatoes up against the house under a 4' soffit I've still lost about 25% of them to damping off from the rain keeping the potting soil too wet.

Sorry to hear of your losses Lori, I can start some more holiday cacti if you'd like and if you like adeniums I can start you some of them....Just let me know.

The rain seems to go around this little patch--- I have several rain-gauges, and keep a record on the calendar... this week we had a sprinkle on Mon. and Tues., less than a half-inch... none since... last week we had 1 " on Tues. and a whopper 3" on Wed...... I sure wish we did get more, like you guys, also if we don't get a lot now we are going to go into the dry-spell coming up short.... anyway, we don't have the afternoon rains daily, like we used to.... it would clean and cool the air, everything would sparkle..... sally

as I write this, it is pouring out there...again. But between the two extremes of none/too much, I'll take too much rain.

Thanks for the offers of new plants, but I'll pass for the moment. Between the rain, extreme heat when it's not raining, and caretaking dad, I don't think I should be getting more plants. I'll hit you both up next spring swap though!

Here in mid-south St Pete I guess we are having just the right amount. Many part days of overcast, so despite high heat and humidity plants are thriving and blooming.

Only exception is my firebush - about which I complained this winter and GW told me to move to get rid of spotting on the leaves. I trimmed it instead, and now it's blooming beautifully, but I did not move it from it's damp area under the roof overhang, so now the spots are back. Oh well... I love seeing the blooms just inches from my front window.

Sorry to hear this Lori. Its sucks when you feel you have no control and see your babies struggling or worse yet dying. We have had lots of rain also but the only real damage I see are the peach and nectarine trees are stressed with yellow dropping leaves.

My 10-year old coontie roots rotted. I rescued the tops, and some seeds, and Tom Broome says I can make new plants from them, but it just broke my heart. I knew I should have brought them inside, but thought they would be o.k. in plain old Florida sand. I was wrong.

I'm thinking that my crotons are being affected. Definitely my aloe...luckily they were in pots and so I brought them inside this past week to dry out. Possibly my mother-in-law tongue, also moved to give it a rest from the rain.

Well, Saturday was dry, windy and very cloudy, a great day to set tomatoes in the garden. Since then it's done nothing but rain and if this keeps up this week I may lose all my tomatoes (27) I just set :-(

well, here it is 9 days after I first made this post and I've had maybe two days without a torrential downpour. That's the weird part about this, it's not just rain, it's thunder and lightning and walls of rain (and then I'll watch the news and they say there was only half an inch of rain that day!?!). If there's an area of red on the weather radar, guaranteed it's over my house.

Sorry to hear of all the things everyone is losing. I have thought of a bright side....we will now have lots of space to fill with new plants and the fall plant sales are around the corner!

The list is getting longer as more things either turn to mush or a nice shade of yellow. I lost a huge amaryllis nymph bulb that I want to cry about. I was looking out the window and it dawned on me I didn't see the leaves. I go out and it's just a mushy spot in the ground. I'm so mad at myself for not catching that sooner and pulling it. I'm also losing a rosemary bush I've had for over 10 years. The osteospermum, canna and mums are gone as is the sage. Got some sort of problem in the honeysuckle as it's yellowing now.

But here's the weird thing...my rain lilies are not blooming! The leaves are above ground and still green, but no flowers. There's a house down the street that has them growing wild in the lawn and theirs aren't flowering either.

But on a good note, I've got a really nice patch of some green ground covering weed and lots of brightly colored mushroom and funghi!

I lost a fresh brewed cup of coffee due to all this rain.
I think I might have to explain.

It was pouring down rain so I had just made a fresh cup of coffee when the rain stopped, like on queue, I picked up a plastic pad to keep my butt dry and went out front to sit on my stoop in the coolness right after the fresh rain. I no sooner sat down and squiggled my butt comfortable with my coffee cup resting on my knee when a stupid frog comes flying through the air and landed right in my coffee cup. After a few seconds of startlement I dumped the struggling frog and my fresh brewed coffee out. I made another cup of coffee but this time I decided to sit out back on the deck with a roof to protect me from anymore flying frogs.

I'm with you, coffeemom...yuck! But I'd almost rather have that than the mosquitos that won't let me sit outside with coffee!
Lori - Like you, I have downpours everyday now. The ground is very saturated and last week, in one very windy storm, some of my newly planted tall bushes blew over. Fortunately, I was able to right them and they are now staked.
Other than that, I haven't lost much but it may be too soon to tell. The crown of thorns are miserable - luckily I had dug most up and put in pots. Bush daisies croaked..
These are the days when I bless the sandy soil!

Strange... we've had lots of rain here as well... 6 inches one day alone!(Polk County) and I haven't lost anything... most of my plants are loving it!

We have now gotten rain almost daily, and at least 1 inch each time, sometimes twice a day.... I haven't had to turn on the sprinklers for a week.. the roses are loving it.... most of my beds are sort of raised, or bermed, and I have not lost anything that I am aware of... but I do have good drainage and water seldom stands or puddles in my yard.... been a strange year that's for sure ! sally

Tom- I planted out 18 and have 6 left. *sniff* I sure hope they make it!
