Swiss Chard Stems

What do you do with yours? I tasted one raw, hated it, and am having trouble forcing myself to try it different ways. Tonight for example I'm making an African/Egyptian type spicy soup that the greens will be great in, but I don't want to dump in the stems.

Anyway, was just curious if any of you bother with the stems at all? They are supposed to be good "when prepared as asparagus". I guess that means steamed.
