Why is there a loud pop sound when JD 125 engine is shut down?
Comments (14)I don't know if the core of what I have been trying to say is clear, or not. But Bill did hit on a different way of saying it. Once a long time ago, there was no such thing as an anti-afterfire fuel solenoid on any brand of outdoor power. Back in those days, everybody's outdoor power engines might pop if you shut them down without a short cool down idle period. Some engines and applications did not pop as much as others, due to different configurations of the exhaust muffler or length of exhaust pipe. Then suddenly, back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the anti-afterfire solenoids began to appear. So, the only way to solve your problem is to have a true professional, well experienced, small engine technician/mechanic evaluate your old tractor and tell you whether or not the tractor ever has an anti-afterfire solenoid on it. If you can remember a time when it did not pop when you shut it down, there may be hope that there is something faulty with an existing solenoid. But if the tractor never was equipped with the anti-afterfire solenoid valve system in the first place, then you are going to have to spend some money to have it retrofitted to behave like a modern tractor. It's kind of like if you want a 1935 Chevrolet with air conditioning on it, you are going to have to pay someone to put it on there because they did not have air conditioned cars back then....See MoreNewbie question: when to plant?
Comments (2)Your plans sound like my yard, six years later just finished establishing beds. If I grow it it is idiot proof. But I am in ZN 3/4 so you will have to tweek my plant choices. If you are getting your plants from a "store" in pots you can plant them anytime. Heat is a factor in success, how much watering you want to do. Wait a few weeks until things cool off and you will have less watering to do. I have Jack-in-the pulpits, astilbe, hosta, hosta, hosta, wild ginger, Solomons seal, trilliums, Bleeding heart, fern leaf and regular; lady, ostrich, maiden hair, christmas, japanese painted ferns. I love ground covers for weed control, creeping jenny, snow on the mountain, ajuga, sedums. I have Lilly of the valley, prim rose, wild geranium, cranesbill geranium...my list goes on. The variey givem me always something blooming. Bulbs, daffodil etc. are up and blooming before the oaks leaf out so I have flowers, small that they are from April until frost. I planted light colored hosta toward the back to lighten the space and draw the eye. Save yourself transplanting and put the larger part was clearing the beds. You could go woodland and look for natives. That is where i got all my jacks and stuff, deeper in the woods and brought up front. Good luck, and have fun!...See MoreBackfire sound - 'popping'
Comments (9)I am stumped by your symptom as described. I have heard backfiring on deceleration, and it sounds nothing like the noise that comes from pre-ignition in the engine, that can occur during acceleration. A hole in the exhaust system would make noise all the time, although it would quiet down some during deceleration. Given the high miles your car has, its probably time to get the exhaust looked at....See MorePopping sound - not sure where it is coming from (video included)
Comments (2)What, if anything else is going on when this happens. Does it happen all the time, just at certain times? HVAC might be a good starting point. As worthy mentioned expansion/contraction of duct work. Baseboard radiators can also make noise as pipes expand/contract....See Moremogzilla
