Some years ago, I meant to get LAST REWARD, but, as with so many on my want list, it just didn't happen. Thanks to your pic, which is much nicer than the one I recall on the web site, I can see myself getting it at some point. That's a very pretty daylily!

What tub? The only tub I have is my bathtub and shower and there are no flowers there :-))

There is the pond, which has some water hyacinth but they rarely flower.

I love Last Reward, and your zinnias look really good. The water hyacinths may need more sun if they don't bloom much. I love water hyacinths, but you can't buy them in
Alabama because they have gotten into the waterways and cause trouble.

Our pond is not connected to any creek or stram or river, but I have to go to Tenneess to get them (and I have,but I would never let them go anywhere else).

That pond is too shady for things like Waterlilies so I figgure too shady for water hyacinth bloom. They are basicly there as cover for the fish and frog. I thought about the amount of shade before I decided on this spot and liked it anyway. Its not heavy shade and it does get some sun.

The "woodseyness" adds to the illusion of a rock grotto in the woods, which was what I was going for.

Dang it! I really wish I had planted that zinnia package I bought. Yours are gorgeous. Gave a package to my daughter and hers are blooming so nice now.

Flash Force is my favorite of the daylilies, and the I really like the zinnia display.

I like zinnias because they are easy and good for all summer color until frost.

One thing about having shade, you won't have to fight algae nearly so aggressively. It likes sun, not shade, so you may have just lucked out there. I love zinnias for the same reason.

Last summer, before I put the pond inground (which was a fall project) I had lots and lots and lots of string algae. Not this year, so I do like the shade better. I have no interest in growing waterlilies so the less sun does not matter to me. I did used to grow some in a pond at my previous house some years back but I could never really get all excited about them.

Thanks for the reminder to plant zinnias next year. Do you grow them from seed? The only annual flats I can find up here are all the same color (dark reddish/pink).

I do most years grow zinnias from seed. Last year I bought a flat of Cut and Come Again zinnias and grew my own State Fair zinnias from seed. This year, I just bought two flats of zinnias and planted them as I was overwhelmed with things to do in the spring. Hopefully I can start my own again next spring and not have so many other projects going on.

Last Reward is my favorite in this group. But your front garden views and the pond are lovely. The pond looks like a very 'cool' place to be. Thanks for the pic of Salmon Star, saw yours before and I ordered some for fall planting.

The Paul Owen seedling is lovely, and so are your gardens. Zinnias are so easy to start. I planted Profusion Zinnias from seed this year. They make a nice border plant and plan on putting them in my new flower bed.

Ohhhhhh. Now the light dawns. I couldn't figgure out what the tub reference was for.

Sharon- I like the older types of zinnias instead of the profusion. CUT AND COME AGAIN, CACTUS FLOWERED, STATE FAIR, PETER PAN, the small button ones I can't remember the name of, I have grown them all from seed. Zinnias look really great with daylilies, I had zinnias in with my daylilies last year but those zinnias got too big. Profusion zinnias would probably be good with daylilies as they might not get as big. Those STATE FAIR zinnias out front are really tall already.

I like all three of your daylilies and your whole yard looks so beautiful and well organized.

I am like every one else.I love the whole yard, but,I really love LAST REWARD.That is a gorgeous daylily.I, too, like those Zinnia's too..I use to grow then every year, the big State Fair ones,I think is the name of them.They were huge blooms,and got about 3 foot high. Don't know why I quit growing them.Might have to reconsider them for next year. I had got on the Marigold kick and grew tons of them every where...That Lily is sure pretty, to.

Rita, in the pic of your planter boxes, is that the hummingbird mint in the lower left corner? Just left of your Iris. All the places I look show pics of the flowers but not the whole plant. Love the look of that plant in your picture.

Andrea- Yes, its one of my hummingbird mints. There is also another small one to the right of the iris. Then there is some up top near the roses so that its in the middle of the picture.

These are great plants. They bloom all summer until frost, the hummers love them. They need really great drainage but othyersise are not fussy at all.

Will take some more pictures of them to try and show them better.

I really have to get some for those front beds. They aren't as tall as I thought they would be which is great.

I just requested a catalog from High Country. Figured since the mint needs long warm period to get established. I'd get a catalog and actually plan the front beds this winter and order in the spring. They have some other great plants that would fit perfectly with the mint.

Andrea- They have a wonderful selection of high desert plants. Deffinately do not plant hummingbird mint in the fall here, it needs time to get established. High Country Gardens has a great selection of Hummingbird Mint, some are taller than others. In fact some are quite tall. I choose the shorter ones for that front yard section along that front wall.
